Nikon P100

The Nikon Coolpix P100 is an ultra zoom digital camera capable of capturing good shots with point-and-shoot ease. Its major attraction is its 26x optical zoom: a 26mm ultra wide-angle for large group and wide landscape shots and a 678mm tele to bring far scenes up real close.

Nikon P100 Review

The Nikon P100 holds the unfortunate position of being the first superzoom camera that I've reviewed out of the latest crop of several other similar cameras. As a result, it will continually be referred to in future reviews of cameras like the Olympus SP-800UZ, Fuji HS10 and other not-so-long...

Nikon Coolpix P100

The 10-megapixel Nikon Coolpix P100 is the successor to last year's 12-megapixel P90 model. That's right, Nikon has reduced the pixel count, if only by a little. The big news is that the new, slightly lower-resolution sensor is of the back-illuminated CMOS variety, which promises a better...

[REVIEW-NIKON COOLPIX P100]

This 10 megapixel camera has a 26–678mm (film equivalent) zoom and a low resolution electronic viewfinder. The 7.5cm LCD screen swings out in a horizontal plane so that the camera may be used at waist level or overhead. Image stabilisation is by sensor shift.
Pros:
  • The image quality from the P100 is acceptable in the wide to medium section of the zoom, although a little soft and with warm white balance
  • At the 678mm extreme image quality is poor.
Cons:
  • The electronic viewfinder is of such low resolution that it is only for use in bright sunlight when the LCD turns black
  • A 678mm lens cannot be used hand-held, even with the best electronic stabilisation

Nikon Coolpix P100 bridge camera

If shots are planned and you have some moments to get the camera in the right setting, excellent results can happen, but the lack of response from the zoom and the metering in some situations may frustrate some.
