Nier: Automata PS4 Review

After a few stumbles with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Star Fox Zero , it seems joining up with Square Enix and the eccentric director Yoko Taro ( Nier , Drakengard series) has ignited a return to form for Platinum Games.

PS4 Review - 'NieR: Automata'

Buy NieR: Automata Created by eccentric director Yoko Taro, Drakengard and its spinoff Nier are greater than the sum of their parts. The strange world and characters carry gameplay that varies from bad to average. Perhaps that is why Nier: Automata works as well as it does.

We don't get games like Nier: Automata too often. And by that I mean games that simultaneously weave a deeply harrowing existentialist narrative, in addition to playing with our expectations on how we play games. There's nothing else around like Nier: Automata (except for maybe its predecessor).

NieR Automata

There's a choice you can make during the playable credits sequence of NieR Automata 's fifth and narratively conclusive ending: whether or not to make the ultimate in gaming sacrifices by helping a stranger, who you will never know or meet, with the game's final challenge.

While I strongly feel it was a crime both NieR and Drakengard 3 were grossly overlooked by the media and blatantly judged only by their flaws, it was about time Yoko Taro's genius got the deserving attention and praise in the form of NieR: Automata .

Nier: Automata PlayStation 4

Action rpg with an open world to explore. Story is top notch, side quests are better than average and add to the overall story experience. multiple endings, which I personally dislike but is standard with many jrpg games. science fiction theme

NieR: Automata

While an improbably slight ingenue dressed in fetish gear and wielding a massive sword isn't exactly pioneering territory for a Japanese video game, there is still something compelling about 2B, the warrior android you play as in .

The original NieR flew under so many people's radars that most don't even know of its existence. It was this strange JRPG-like character action game with some eclectic characters, a strange world and a story that required you to play through the game multiple times before you really got the full...

The narrative is incredibly unique and engaging | Combat is fast-paced and varied | You'll learn to love the characters through all the playthroughs | Interesting world to explore and get to know intimately | Wonderful soundtrack | Genre-defying variation

No ability to mark an active quest; which makes navigating confusing | Visuals could have used a little work

After 50+ hours, I have finally finished Nier: Automata and have seen all of the true endings in the game. This is one of those games that when you finish it, you immediately go to Reddit, Facebook, Youtube, anywhere you can to have an official discussion about the game with other people who have...

Nier: Automata (PlayStation 4) Review

On the surface, it can be easy to assume that Nier: Automata is more of a Platinum Games product than a Yoko Taro game. Do not be mistaken - this game is definitely pure Yoko Taro at his most Taro-iest, but with the deft polish that one could expect from a game developed by Platinum Games.
