Motorola is on launching sphere these days. The brand has already introduced a range smartphones in India and Moto Z2 Play is one of them. The device comes with a price tag of Rs 27,999 and is all set to take on the likes of Samsung and OnePlus, which has dominated this price segment.

Sleek design; Clean user interface; Impressive battery life

Camera could have been better; Shimmers a bit in high-graphic games; Dual-SIM functionality is buggy

Last year Motorola launched two modular flagships, the Moto Z and Moto Z Play. The former was a premium high-end device, and the later was a functional low-cost variant meant for anyone willing to experience modular convenience without spending a high-end price.

With the Moto Z2 Play, Motorola is still on the path it started last year. The new model is slimmer, but at the cost of battery capacity. Dropping the battery size for aesthetics might not have been the best idea because Motorola has weakened one of the Z Play's best attributes.

Lenovo-owned Motorola made a significant mark on the smartphone industry last year when it brought its take on modular smartphones to the world. Very different from the concept-like ways of Project Ara but definitely better implemented than LG's half-baked attempts with the G5 , the Moto Mods that...

Motorola Moto Z2 Play

When it comes to modular phones, the jury is still out for us, especially with Motorola (owned by Lenovo) being the only real manufacturer pushing forward with this concept. There are certainly advantages, upgrading or enhancing elements of one's device with a handy attachment, but above all the...

Premium finish; Solid processing power; Streamlined UI

Unsightly camera bulge; Can become expensive with Moto Mods

Moto Z2 Play review: Midnight in the garden of good and sequel

Motorola went iterative for its Moto Z Play sequel, announcing it just nine months after the original. It's not a complete overhaul, and in two major ways is a downgrade, but it's also one of the most well-rounded and enjoyable-to-use Android phones on the market.

Excellent performance; Beautifully made and well-designed; Good battery life; Commendable camera quality; Moto Mods support

Higher price than its predecessor; Choice of aging processor isn't great; Worse battery life than previous generation

Moto Z2 Play Review: Still modular, less powerful

The predecessor to the Moto Z2 Play, the original modular Z mid-range phone, had a small but devoted cult following.

Simple and intuitive UI; Improved design; Useful and fun Mods

Decreased battery power; Mediocre camera; High price point

It was just last year that we saw the Moto Z Play pop up on Malaysian shores, and with it was a variety of Moto Mods that did what no phone has ever done before. Delivering incredible modularity with premium level accessories, such as projectors or speakers, it was something special.

Moto Mods; Overall performance; Slimmer

Motorola Moto Z2 Play Review

The Moto Z2 Play is a premium mid-range smartphone that follows the Moto Z Play from last year. Lenovo/Motorola is committed to making the Moto Z series an integral part of the Moto Mods ecosystem so the Moto Z2 Play will be backward and forward compatible with the existing Moto Mods accessories.

* Solid build and beautiful design; * Very good battery life; * Good performance; * Support for Moto Mods; * Great camera quality; * Affordable pricing

* Expensive Moto Mods; * Camera bump at the back

But for as nice as the idea is, actually making modular smartphones work is an uphill battle, and even giants like Google have looked long and hard at such projects before eventually declaring, “Nope!”But last year Lenovo-owned Motorola did the impossible, and launched not just a modular smartphone, but a whole family of both modular phones and the modules that attach to them: the Moto Mods. We were promised that this wouldn't be a one-shot phenomenon, and this year they're indeed back, as we get a new phone and some new Moto Mods add-ons.
