Moto Z2 Play review: Not a bad phone, but still a step backward
Motorola has yet to truly make the case that Moto Mods are a good idea. We were promised monthly mod releases, but that didn't happen. The Moto Mods we do have range from quirky and overpriced to mediocre... and overpriced.
Pros:
- Performance The Moto Z2 Play is optimized very well, despite the mid-range specs
- Basic tasks won't cause a bit of lag, Battery life The battery life is above average, and it charges incredibly fast with Moto's premium charger, Software Motorola's version of Nougat is clean and efficient.
Cons:
- Battery life again While it's good compared to other phones
- the Moto Z2 Play gets poorer battery life than last year's phone
- Moto Mods I'm still not convinced that Moto Mods make sense
- Design The same flat back and giant camera hump seen on other Z phones
- thanks to the Moto Mod connector.

Moto Z2 Play review
The Moto Z2 Play is a great mid-range smartphone; it features a gorgeous design, premium build and the Moto Mods support provides extended functionality based on what you require from the smartphone, from extra battery power to an improved speaker and even a built-in projector. Despite the smaller battery, the Snapdragon 626 processor is incredibly efficient and we comfortably lasted a day on a single charge, and when we did run out it was quick to top up thanks to the included fast charging tech. It holds its own against competitors in our benchmark tests, and real world use is decent.

So there we have it: the Moto Z2 is a great mid-range phone in its own right, with super stamina, solid performance, 64GB of storage, plenty of features and a good camera. Throw in its expandability with its Moto Mods, and you have very versatile device.

Motorola Moto Z2 Play: Australian Review
Motorola's mod-friendly smartphone, the Moto Z, is back. It's back in Z2 Play form, refining the original idea a little and bringing one of 2016's most interesting - if not exactly compelling - phones into late 2017.

The original Moto Z Play was a popular device among those who wanted a massive battery in a mid-range device wi
Pros:
- Super slim, well-constructed design
- The Moto Mod ecosystem is maturing and can provide useful additions
- Decent camera at this price point
- Near-stock Android is always welcome
Cons:
- At least $100 too expensive
- Underwhelming performance compared to similarly-priced budget flagships
- No longer a standout phone for battery life

Motorola Moto Z2 Play review - Lighter, better, thinner and improved, but not for everyone
So, it looks like the Moto Z2 Play passes with flying colours. Compact design, good camera, good battery life, good performance, neat motion sensing controls, but some might not like the huge camera bump, and the panorama is still underwhelming.
