Review: Motorola's $129 Moto E is good and cheap (but mostly good)

If you're looking for an inexpensive, unlocked Android phone to use with a provider like Straight Talk , the Moto G and Moto E should be at the top of your list. Given the kinds of phones Straight Talk will sell you for between $100 and $200, we'd argue that they should be the only phones on your...
Pros:
  • An impressively solid
  • well-built phone for the price
  • Screen has nice color and viewing angles
  • and will be sharp enough for most
  • The latest version of Android with at least one guaranteed Android update
  • No irritating OEM skins or carrier bloatware
  • MicroSD card slot helps to offset the small...
Cons:
  • CPU
  • GPU
  • Wi-Fi
  • and cellular performance is good enough for the price
  • but objectively mediocre
  • MicroSD support is an improvement over stock Android but inelegant compared to Windows Phone
  • Who knows what's going to happen to Motorola once the Lenovo sale is finalized
  • The Moto G is a pretty big...

The sub Rs 10,000 smartphone segment in India has largely been the preserve of Indian handset brands, with Samsung being the lone exception. Just a couple of weeks ago Nokia demonstrated with the 630 that the bizarre Indian moniker of ‘cheap and best' can somewhat co-exist.
Pros:
  • Excellent build quality
Cons:
  • Humdrum camera

Motorola Moto E: Australian Review

Motorola's new Moto E has been a long time coming - it's a super -cheap smartphone from a historied and respected manufacturer that isn't terrible and doesn't try to offer the world. And, if you look at it in the context of its bargain-basement price tag, you'll be impressed.

When I attended the Motorola breakfast announcing the Moto E and Moto G 4G back in May this year, I had to say that at least in relation to the E, I didn't have high hopes.
Pros:
  • The Moto E runs (basically) stock Android
  • so it'll be updated pretty quickly
  • Battery life that lasts all day
  • and then some more
  • A good size for the average hand
Cons:
  • There's no 4G here
  • but frankly
  • what did you expect
  • Qualcomm's Snapdragon 200 is slow compared to what's in most other phones
  • and you notice it
  • The camera is pretty poor
