Mortal Kombat XL Review – An Extra Large Helping of Magnificent Sadistic Brutality

With all the fighting games released in the past couple of years, none of them hit that nostalgic button any better than Mortal Kombat X . The legendary franchise has seen many highs and lows over the past few decades but when Mortal Kombat X arrived on the scene last year, fans were thrilled and...

Stunning visuals; Strong cast of characters; FINISH HIM never felt so good

Microtransactions annoying; Online players will punish you; A little early for an XL edition

Mortal Kombat XL review – extra violent

A fighting gaming bursting with content, as well as severed body parts, and more of both makes this XL edition particularly good value for money.

The OTT violence is gloriously varied and just tongue-in-cheek enough not to offend; Varied characters and disciplines, especially in the XL edition; Story mode is surprisingly good

The combat is still simplistic by fighting game standards and there are still almost no genuinely new ideas; Some ugly character art and a lack of explanation for different disciplines

Mortal Kombat XL Review

Honestly, I don't know how Mortal Kombat does it. At first, the theory with its guest characters was that it could use anything under NetherRealm's parent company Warner Bros. This opened the door for Freddy Krueger in Mortal Kombat 9 and Jason Voorhees in X .

Practicality in character lore; Seem to have initial balance; Viscerally entertaining

Mortal Kombat XL PS4 Review

Perhaps it doesn't need saying, but playing Mortal Kombat XL has shown me that its developer NetherRealm Studios really do have an incredible eye for the ludicrously violent and the stupendously hammy.

Mortal Kombat XL Review PC

Let's just forget for a second that the initial release of Mortal Kombat X on PC was an absolute mess. At least we're going to for the sake of this review.

I stopped playing fighting games 20 years ago when they all seemed identical: the graphics, the moves, the structure of the "tournaments". But I picked this up a few weeks ago and unpacked it at a friends place. We had 2 solid hours of hilariously gruesome gameplay that I hadn't experienced before.

"Hours Of Fights"

I have only recently had a PS4 in the house as my other half bought one to replace our PS3. I used to love playing computer games but for a while have not really been buying new games, however, since getting the PS4 there have been so many games I've wanted to buy that it's gotten me excited about...
