Terribly made, feels like a DS game, horrible graphics

I've been playing Monster Hunter games for a long time - my first was Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on the PSP all the way back in 2009, and my most recent, prior to Generations Ultimate, was Monster Hunter World earlier this year.

With Monster Hunter World's resounding worldwide success, selling over 10 million units, and becoming the best-selling title in Capcom's history, the Monster Hunter formula has finally clicked with the West.

Amazing combat; Huge roster of monsters; Perfect to play on the go

Does a bad job of explaining its systems; Can seem overwhelming to new players

Monster Hunter Generations is a good game. However, it really doesn't feel like one at times. After coming off of 50+ hours of Monster Hunter World, going back in time is difficult. The combat isn't as fluid, it has technical issues and is ripe with loading screens every time you enter a zone.

Plethora of weapons; armor; and hunter arts; Prowler quests are a fun way to mix things up; Monster are varied and challenging

Combat feels clunky at times; Loading between every zone; Limited use items make gathering certain items a chore

While harder to recommend widely than the much more user-friendly Monster Hunter World, GenU is still a fantastic game in a fantastic series, if one...

A frankly absurd amount of content; Upscales really well; 'Classic' MonHun at its best

Sorely misses World's quality-of-life changes; Some redundant style/weapon combos; Hope you enjoy grinding..

It may not be World, but Generations feels like a fitting substitute for the Switch in absence of the franchise's most recent smash hit. It compiles some of the Monster Hunter's most iconic beasts and provides an extensive look into the series' history ahead of its most recent evolution.

Monster Hunter has seen something of a resurgence in 2018, first with Monster Hunter World on lesser consoles like PC and PS4, and now with Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate landing on Switch.

From developer Capcom, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is exactly the kind of experience any fan of the series expects it to be. Players take on the role of a Hunter who has just arrived in town and is ready to make quick work of whatever monster is plaguing the people.
