Looking up

Slightly above average or simply inoffensive. Fans of the genre should enjoy this game, but a fair few will be left unfulfilled.

The plot and twists may be too predictable for an older audience, and having to sit out on the action is weird, but it's nice to have a Telltale adventure game that's suitable for youngsters.

Recipe for Success

The level of creativity and freedom it grants players is something to be aspired toward, if not envied, and it shows, from...

Minecraft: Story Mode Episode 1 review

Minecraft: Story Mode 's The Order of the Stone is a strong first opening for the episodic Telltale adventure set in the Minecraft world. It's got its small fumbles like most games from the developer, mainly a lack of tangible consequences and less hard choices than other series (though this is due...

+Excellent characters and fun story; + Top-quality voice actors; + Faithful blocky aesthetic

- Puzzles very simple; - Consequences not really that heavy

Minecraft: Story Mode Episode 2 - Assembly Required Review

Minecraft: Story Mode Episode 2: Assembly Required is disappointingly short, and adds to Episode 1's problems with establishing its world and its characters rather than reducing them.

Genuinely branching story; Great sets

Not much humor; ...or drama; Little interaction; Extremely short

Minecraft Story Mode: episode 2 review

Episode one of Minecraft Story Mode showed a lot of potential, with an ending that hinted at a dramatically different experience for episode two depending on your final choice. Now that the novelty of a Minecraft-flavoured Telltale project has worn off, are we left with a game that continues to...

Minecraft Story Mode: Episode 3 Review - A Misstep in the Series That is Hopefully Improved Upon in the Next Entry

Jesse and friends trip underground to find a lost hero is not the most pleasant one, and not just because of the endermen.

The End?

There are some spoilers below. Be warned! Drama hasn't been a hallmark of Minecraft Story Mode, with the series' amiable characters and goofy scenarios putting the game squarely in the light entertainment category thus far. But all that changes in this latest episode, A Block and a Hard Place.

Wraps up the "main" quest in a satisfying way; Some nice emotional moments between characters; Fun action sequences

Some character's fates feel a little tacky

Minecraft: Story Mode - A Telltale Games Series - 'Access Denied'

The final three episodes of 'Story Mode' are kind of a sitcom, with self-contained storylines that neatly fold into each episode, set within a thin veneer of overarching narrative.
