Miele Information

Located in Gutersloh, Germany, Miele is a manufacturer of high-end appliances for the home, as well as commercial equipment for businesses. It is a very popular brand, and they have a solid reputation in the field when it comes to delivering high quality products that perfectly meld form and function. They have had plenty of time to perfect their business as well, as they are well over a hundred years old.

Miele History

Carle Miele and Reinhard Zinkann founded Miele in 1899, and they have always been a family owned and family run business, unlike so many other companies in the field of appliances and technology. When they first started, they put out products under the name Meteor. The first items they produced were a butter churn and a cream separator, along with a tub style washing machine. Miele took care of the manufacturing side of the business, while his partner worked on the finances and sales, while apprenticing to work in manufacturing.

Even in the early years of the company, they were using the Miele trademark on the machines they created, as well as nameplates, printing, and advertising. The original logo has only gone through a few minor changes over the years, as well. The logo has become one of the most recognized logos in Germany, and much of Europe.

The company delved into a few different industries over the years. Between 1912 and 1914, they produced vehicles. However, they only made 125 vehicles during that time. In 1914, they also made the first washing machine that included an electric motor. They soon set up branches in other areas around the world, including Buenos Aires, Brussels, Vienna, Warsaw, and Paris.

From 1924 to 1960, they added bicycles and motorcycles to the list of products they developed and sold. They began producing vacuum cleaners in 1927 and made the first electric dishwasher in Europe in 1929. The first fully automatic washer was made in 1956, and two years later, they made the first tumble dryers for homes.

The company continued to create innovative products in these fields. They actually made the first microprocessor controlled washing machines, dryers, and dishwashers in 1978. They've created a variety of new types of machines for home usage over the years with each generation learning from and improving on the past.

What Does Miele Offer Today?

The company makes a variety of domestic appliances, and they are very famous for the quality of their laundry machines, as well as their dishwashers. They make vacuum cleaners, steam and speed ovens, convection ovens, cook tops, refrigerators, freezers, coffee machines, wine coolers, and more. They also still work with commercial companies. They make large commercial laundry equipment, specialized dishwashers to use in laboratories, and washers for medical equipment.

Success of the Brand Today

The company is one of the most successful in the world, and they even received an award in 2007 for being the most successful company in Germany that year. They have won a number of best company and best product awards. They also received the award for Best Domestic Appliance Brand in the UK in 2007, 2008, and 2010.

The company is popular across Europe, as well as in the United States, where the company markets their products as high-end solutions for a host of domestic needs. Some of the brand main competitors in the country include Viking Range, and AEG. The design and style of the machines the company makes, for residential as well as commercial usage, is one of the things that help to set them apart from other brands. The machines have a unique style that is aesthetically pleasing.

They currently export products to markets around the world, and they are selling in 47 countries right now. They did not expand to the United States until 1983, but they've been growing and gaining ground in the country ever since. Their first headquarters in the states was in Somerset, NJ, but they moved to a new building in Princeton in 1999. The manufacturing centers of Meile are in Germany, Romania, and the Czech Republic. They do not actually manufacture any of their machines in the United States. They just ship them to the U.S.
