Microsoft Xbox One Slim 1TB

"Sleeker. Slimmer. Sharper." That's the promise behind the Xbox One S, and this streamlined device certainly delivers a heavyweight entertainment experience that matches the hype.

Size doesn't count

The Xbox One Slim is living proof that you don't need a monster console to have huge fun. The console is 40% smaller than traditional Xbox consoles but lets you do everything you want to do, and play every game you want to play. With its internal power supply and 1TB of internal storage, the Xbox One S is one of the most advanced Xbox models ever released.

Super clear, super real

4K Ultra HD offers four times the resolution of standard HD. Given that standard HD is pretty cool, you would have to think that 4K Ultra HD is mind-blowing. It is! It delivers the clearest, most realistic video possible. You can stream 4K content on Netflix, or check out an Ultra HD Blu-ray movie in stunning visual fidelity with High Dynamic Range.

The lowdown on High Dynamic Range

To experience richer, more vibrant colours in your favourite games, you really need High Dynamic Range. The higher contrast ratio between lights and darks means a stunning layer of visual depth is added to your games, making the experience truly dramatic and exciting.

You're in total control

The all new Xbox Wireless Controller looks as cool as it performs. The sleek, streamlined design, textured grip, and Bluetooth for gaming on Windows 10 devices, gives you greater control than ever before. You'll enjoy custom button mapping and improved wireless range, and be able to plug in any compatible headset with the 3.5mm stereo headset jack. This controller is not just new - it's a major leap ahead!

Great service

Bought this for Christmas for my daughter as my son had one already and they were not able to play the same game together from the same console. This was a brilliant deal as it included two controllers and we know from experience that controllers are still expensive so for the machine as well, It...

Doesn't turn on

The Xbox worked the first time I used it. Now every time I press the power button, it will turn on for a few seconds, then automatically shuts down.

Xbox One S Review: Slimmer, better, faster, stronger

Ed notes: Yes, I am quite aware that the Xbox One S has been out for a while now both in the US and in SA. The console launched in August last year, and we only received it in April in SA.

U nlike the Xbox One launch , the One S decoupled the Kinect requirement, reduced the size, switched to the now premium pearl white look, and added both 4K and HDR capabilities to both games and Blu-ray. All of this and Microsoft also reduced the launched price when compared to the original.

Today the Xbox One S launches in South Africa and we got to take one for a test drive to see how it handles compared to its much bigger older brother, the Xbox One. So what has Microsoft changed in three years? Well firstly there are a few obvious changes.

HDR gaming | Smaller machine with no powerbrick | Small increase in power

Only available in white | 4K gaming is just upscaled

Will take some getting used to

If your TV is compatible with the 4K system, it will automatically switch over. The man is a PlayStation guy so the Xbox controllers are a challenge (completely different feel). He wanted the Forza game but they don't have it for the PS4 (the main reason he bought the system).

Xbox One S Gears of War 4 Limited Edition Review

While the Xbox One S is an amazing console, it just doesn't have a place, as it's such an incremental improvement. You should probably wait for Scorpio to get bigger changes.

Xbox One S review: Great console and 4K Blu-ray player for the budget concious

As an entry-level console, the Xbox One S comes jam packed with great features and offers a smooth user experience. It is well worth considering if you are looking for something to spin Ultra HD Blu-rays and haven't taken the plunge yet.

4K Ultra HD Blu-ray support with HDR; 4K Netflix and Amazon Video playback; 1080p HDR gaming; Great wireless controller; No power brick

Doesn't give you 4K gaming; Slightly slower in operation to its beefier One X sibling
