Microsoft Surface Pro 6 12.3in i7 8GB 256GB

Rating 4.3 34 reviews

Increased power is the key feature of this impressive tablet/laptop, which is the sixth Surface Pro from Microsoft. As a result, this new version of the Surface Pro offers you even more performance at an even greater speed. Going by first impressions, The Surface Pro 6 does not look a great deal different from its predecessors, although the availability of a matte black aluminium shell, as well as standard silver, will give you a machine with real stand out appeal. But it's on the inside where the Surface Pro 6 is really different. Internally, it has been super-charged!

The Surface Pro 6 has been updated with 8th-generation quad-core Intel Core processors, backed up with up to 16GB of RAM and plenty of storage. This is far more than you'll find in many competing tablets being sold at a similar price point, and is one of the reasons the Surface Pro 6 is so heavily promoted as a machine with performance as a priority; a 67% improvement according to Microsoft, which is a staggering leap ahead!

The ability to handle a multitude of tasks simultaneously, and at great speed, marks the Surface Pro 6 as the ideal business tool across a wide range of industries. Thanks to the built-in Kickstand, business (and pleasure) on the Surface Pro 6 can be done in laptop mode, tablet mode, or portable studio mode, with absolute ease. Don't forget, you can add a Surface Pen for added functionality.

For all these changes, and they are changes that take the Surface Pro brand to new heights, there's a touch of familiarity too. The device includes Windows 10, with its well-known features like password-free sign-in and Cortana2 intelligent assistant, and Intel UHD graphics on a 12.3-inch touch display with a resolution of 2,736 x 1,824. The colour vibrancy on previous Surface Pro displays has always been a crowd pleaser, and it's as vivid as ever in this new-generation tablet. The battery life is as good as the resolution and colour spectrum, with the promise of up to 13.5 hours, which is a big increase on previous models- another big selling point for those who need their tablet to work alongside them for a full and long day...and entertain them when the work is done.

For all its upgraded performance and storage, the portability of the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 has not been compromised. The machine measures up at a very thin 8.5mm and weighs less than 800 grams, making this seriously impressive tablet (or laptop if you want to use it that way) feel like a real feather when you take it with you. You could say it's a lightweight to carry but a real heavyweight when you need a machine that can smoothly handle every task with speed.

Microsoft Surface Pro 6 review: Powerful, pretty - and pointless

We're not as enamoured by the Surface Pro 6 as we were by its predecessor. Part of this is because it's effectively the same device in many ways - it would be more accurate to call it the Surface Pro 5.5, rather than 6.
Pros:
  • Great performance
  • Black colour scheme looks gorgeous
Cons:
  • No USB-C support
  • Underwhelming battery life

Microsoft Surface Pro 6 review

Before introducing the 2017 Surface Pro , Microsoft came out and said that there would be no such thing as a ‘Surface Pro 5.' Why Well, a future Surface Pro would get a number again when it brought forth "an experiential change that made a huge difference in the product line."
Pros:
  • Quad-core processing
  • Long battery life
  • Excellent new color option
Cons:
  • Still no USB-C
  • Dated USB 3.0 port
  • Few meaningful improvements

Microsoft Surface Pro 6 review: Microsoft adds quad-core power to its tried-and-true tablet

Microsoft's Surface Pro 6 is the latest iteration of its iconic Windows tablet, complete with an 8th-generation, quad-core chip inside of it.
Pros:
  • Quad-core 8th-gen Core chip adds a performance bump
  • Core i5 model does away with the fan
  • Battery life improves somewhat
Cons:
  • External chassis is essentially unchanged...again
  • Step down in GPU power from previous model
  • Confusing mix of configurations to choose from on...

Very innovative, functional, and high quality

My daughter wanted a Macbook because she heard from everyone how they never had issues, but Im a PC guy. Apple makes great hardware and software, but they sure are proud of it. I recently came across a Surface Pro display at a store, and my daughter really fell in love with the quality, weight,...

Better than before, which still isn't very good.

I've had a Surface Pro 3 for several years now, my opinion of which has steadily declined since I purchased it. Plagued by bugs and flaws of every variety imaginable, it finally (and spontaneously) died outright a while back. What better to replace it with than the shiny, new 2018 model

Excellent product, terrible QA testing

I'm on my third device now, as the first two had screen defects (not just stuck pixels), but JL were excellent at sorting it out. Having had several laptops, from various top brands in the past, I have to say that this device is actually very good.

Microsoft Surface Pro 6 review: An already exceptional 2-in-1 gets even better

The Surface Pro is entering its sixth year in existence, so it seems relevant for a "Surface Pro 6 model" to match. While the older numbering system for the name has returned, the hardware remains mostly the same as 2017's Surface Pro, now dubbed the Surface Pro "fifth gen" by Microsoft.
Pros:
  • New CPU is substantially more powerful, Improved battery life
  • runs cooler, Black is awesome, Excellent build quality and design
Cons:
  • No Type-C or Thunderbolt 3
  • No LTE option (yet)
  • Odd pricing levels

Microsoft Surface Pro 6 Review

The Surface Pro 6 isn't for everyone. It's for people who will truly benefit from having a detachable 2-in-1 that's light enough to carry anywhere and flexible enough to use as a tablet or laptop.
