Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard Review

There are two main types of keyboards you should look for if typing comfort is paramount. Keyboards with mechanical switches offer superior key stability and a satisfying clicking sensation, while ergonomically designed boards like the Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard ($59.99) force your arms, wrists, and hands into a position that could help eliminate strain and injury. This keyboard has been around in various iterations for years, and the current version (released in 2019) deserves a close look from productivity hounds. It manages to offer a superior typing sensation—almost as good as typing on mechanical key switches—while still maintaining an ergonomically correct position.A Layout Split in Half Many keyboards offer wrist rests, tilt adjustments, and other accoutrements to improve ergonomics, but few go as far as Microsoft’s Ergonomic Keyboard. This board is split in half like a parting Red Sea. There’s a giant gap in the middle that bulges upward (roughly the opposite of the down...

In addition to saving your wrists from stress, the Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard offers plenty of typing comfort in a stylish package plus a comprehensive array of shortcut keys.

Excellent typing feel; Classy design; Comfortable wrist rest; Adjustable tilt; Many shortcut keys, including for Office apps, screenshots, and emojis

Steep learning curve could hamper productivity; Software does not work with Windows 10 S Mode

Everything I need in an ergo board

Have had on older version for a long time, wanted something similar for the home office, and this has everything I need. Was tempted by the flatter, likely quieter keys of the MS Surface ergo board, but it wasn't available and was twice the cost. I find the all the keys are in the correct orientation on this keyboard WRT number pad, insert/home/end etc, and I like the texture of the keys and palm rest. I won't likely use the emoji / programmable keys much but am glad the option (right click) key is there, and the row of controls across the top are convenient, including calculator, screenshot etc. I don't need the extra front tilt leg as my keyboard is inset from the edge of my desk, but thought it was a good idea to provide it as an option.

Reasonably happy with it

I bought this to replace an older MS ergonomic model, the 4000 ergonomic. The new unit is a good replacement apart from one issue that would only affect long term heavy users of the 4000 ergonomic...the ScrLk, Pause and NumLk buttons are too close to the Insert, Home and PgUp buttons. Aside from that, the unit is fine. The keys have a pleasant feel when you hit them. I would buy again however I would still prefer another 4000 ergonomic if given the chance.

No more hand pain

Great keyboard. I bought this keyboard when I started feeling pain in my right hand. I no longer have any hand pain after a couple of weeks of use. It takes some time getting used to the split keys. It is also a large keyboard and typing can be a little noisy.

Great Keyboard for a poor typer

I have found my touch typing skills have improved and the cushioning at the front really makes for a comfortable day at the office. Highly recommended!

Good for ergonomics

The keyboard is very comfortable and is absolutely better from an ergonomic perspective. The only slight downside is that the keys are louder when typing. I really liked how it comes with a raiser that can be removed to adjust the height under the wrists.
