Mafia: Definitive Edition review

Remakes, remasters, and other such “re” releases of fan-favorite games are big business, but they're not all created equal. Most recently, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 and Super Mario 3D All-Stars proved this, offering two wildly different approaches to revisiting beloved properties. But Mafia: Definitive Edition makes no bones about what it is, a from-the-ground-up offering that celebrates it original concepts, while rebuilding them entirely to take advantage of contemporary hardware. The result is a visual stunner that can stand alongside this generation's best looking games. More than a pretty face though, it's also an absorbing, story-driven affair that makes a strong case for reigning in the superfluousness of open-world games in favor of finding a balance that puts as much focus and polish on plot and character. Sandbox stalwarts may not dig the deliberate, linear pacing, but those looking to be immersed in a playable mob tale that could do Tony Soprano proud will want to make a name for themselves in Lost Heaven.

Stunning visual presentation; Compelling characters, engaging story; Solid gameplay perfectly complements plot;

Open-world fans may crave more freedom/content;

Mafia: Definitive Edition Review

Hanger 13 has crafted a gorgeous remake of an action classic, but the picturesque city of Lost Heaven and the characters that call it home are sadly lacking in substance, resulting in an adventure that could have been so much more.

Tommy Angelo is a fantastic, sympathetic lead character; The city of Lost Heaven is filled with life and looks fantastic; While cliched, the narrative is involving and well-executed;

You’re not encouraged or given much chance to explore; Mission design is archaic and outdated ; Combat lacks impact and finesse ;

Mind blowing remake

Mafia the definitive edition is a remake of the original game that was released back in 2002. Playing the remake of this game is absolutely mind blowing. The new graphics, new gameplay and new dialogue is mind blowing, and the visuals of this remake on the PS4 pro is amazing. The remake was developed by hangar 13 (same developer from mafia 3) and they have made a massive step up on remaking the original mafia by going back mafia gameplay roots and making the game looking like it’s finished, because mafia 3 in my opinion was a quite disappointing game. This game won’t disappoint at all. I’m having a lot of fun with this game so far it’s really enjoyable. Highly recommend game to play!

Great game

Only reason I have given a fair comment is because I emailed the Modbury store before purchasing to ask about possible postage times and they never replied to my email
