PS3 Review – The Lord of the Rings: War in the North

There isn't much more to say about The Lord of the Rings: War in the North . It's a side story within the Lord of the Rings universe presented in the form of a mediocre hack-n-slash RPG. Only the die-hard Lord of the Rings fans need apply here. The rest of you can pick up Skyrim to get your RPG fix.

+ Set in the Lord of the Rings universe; split-screen is always welcome

+ Set in the Lord of the Rings universe; split-screen is always welcome; - Unimpressive graphics; glitches and audio issues abound; - Game-breaking technical problems; short and simple story

Lord of the Rings: War in the North

As the year comes to an end, I find myself playing yet another disappointing action RPG. Last year, it was Fable III , and this year, it's Lord of the Rings: War in the North . I had the opportunity to take in War in the North at E3 2011 and left feeling very impressed, going as far to call it my...

Fair Game But Not Same As Return Of King

At first, I thought this Lord of the Rings game would be great like the other games from the PS2 versions but I was left a little disappointed. I read the story when buying the game and thought it would be a great PS3 game but it wasn't what I expected.

Plenty of battles

Not like previous type games

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North

You cannot get too much of Lord of the Rings, but Snowblind Studios went in a brave direction when they replaced Frodo and his cohorts with brand new heroes...

Entertaining in co-operative mode; smart guest appearances by more famous characters; nice concept

Flat story; stupid enemies; repetitive combat; poorly thought out revivals

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North Review

Developer Snowblind Studios, best known for the PlayStation 2 action RPG Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance , has not released a major console game since 2006. This drought ends after five years with Lord of the Rings: War in the North .

Co-op play is enjoyable; Different character abilities diversify play

Combat becomes tedious and can be mild; Narrative isn't strong; Characters are less so

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North

Alright: May be slightly above average or simply inoffensive. Fans of the genre should enjoy them a bit, but a fair few will be left unfulfilled.

It was good up until it stopped working

A lot of people have been commenting on how buggy this game is. Sadly, I was not spared the glitches. I was about just about the play the final chapter of the game when I got stuck between two checkpoints in Norinbad, and unable to advance any further. Very angry about this.

Co-op pointless

Brilliant one player game but it is nigh on impossable to save with any consistancy when playing as a two player co-op. This is due to a software glitch and has made what should have been a great Birthday gift for my other half a waste of money. Such a shame as the gameplay is great.

Playable But Lacking Something

I have to say this game wasn't what I expected. It is set in the Lord of the Rings world but I didn't think it was a particular new game. The concept is very much the same as previous games because you play a character fighting in a war; of course, there are still orcs to kill and all sorts of...

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North

Forget about Frodo and the Ring; you've got more important fish to fry.

Same console co-op; Interesting story; Loads of stuff to loot; Really Awesome Equipment

Poor skill distribution; Ability to change characters throughout the game; Annoying and repetitive combat
