I didn't realize how long it's been since our last wireless extender review, which was Linksys' RE6500 last September. It's purely coincidence that I'm looking at Linksys' latest wireless extender, the RE6700 AC1200 AMPLIFY Dual-Band Wi-Fi Range Extender today.

The LinksysAC1200 Amplify Wi-Fi range extender model RE6700 is a convenient means of improving connectivity around the home. It can be used to expand Wi-Fi coverage as well as providing local Ethernet and audio connections.

When it was first adopted, Wireless AC initially represented a new, better way for inter-device communications and it still offers the best bandwidth among mass-market wireless standards.

W ireless range extenders are pretty common place now, making sure all the devices we have these days can get on to the Internet. The Linksys RE6700 is the bigger brother of the RE6300 reviewed in this issue.

We conducted throughput tests with Ixia's IxChariot at ranges of five, 25, 50 and 75 feet in both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands to evaluate the RE6700's performance. For comparison, we're including measurements from a number of recently-tested competitors.

The RE6700 is a solid performer that doesn't physically cover more than one electrical socket and offers a simple; user-friendly setup and extras like Cross-Band and DLNA streaming
