Outstanding

Am honored to be the first to review this new product from the new Linksys line of Small Business stuff. They have definitely hit the ball out of the park on this one, finally. Highly configurable re: firewall access rules, port forwarding, DHCP etc.

Speed (both the device itself and when settings changes are made

five stars

I've used these units for a few years and am still recommending them to clients in need of a lower-cost VPN solution. The admin interface is not overly complex and still provides easy site-to-site and client-to-gateway VPN configurations. Also has good vlan and bandwidth management tools.

A solid performer when VPN is required.

The LRT2x4 series is my current VPN router of choice. I have purchased and installed several of them over the last few years in order to connect multiple office locations via VPN.

Maximize Home Gigabit

I have pretty much been thrilled with the performance and ease of use of this router. I went from a dozen or so devices in the home sharing the 200 megabit throughput of the old router to almost a full gigabit. No more complaints from the kids and wife with their streaming and gaming.

Great throughput

Spontaneous factory reset

It's a clunker

Prepare to be hacked through any number of unpatched vulnerabilities, all while being unable to connect to the admin console without some ActiveX plug-ins.

Linksys LRT214 Business Gigabit VPN Router Review

At the time of writing, the Linksys LRT214 can be found at Amazon for £161.48 or $142.66 . A very fair price for such a unit. The Linksys LRT214 is an amazing little and unsuspicious looking router that makes the use of VPNs as easy as it could be.

Great feature set; VPN; OpenVPN; and EasyLink VPN; Firewall; Hardware DMZ

Early in 2013, Cisco sold its Linksys brand to Belkin, with the deal completing in March of 2013. In November 2013, Belkin relaunched a small business line of Linksys products, including multiple unmanaged switches, IP cameras, access points and two VPN routers.

This VPN-capable business router won't leave your wallet black and blue

Clear user interface; Wide range of features

Not powerful enough to support optimal performance on internal OpenVPN & PPTP servers

Not bad at all

After the death of my elderly FVX538 I've been looking around for a reasonably priced SOHO firewall (after finding that most of the FVXs' for sale had the same fault as the one I already owned)".

Linksys LRT214 Business Gigabit VPN Router Review

The Linksys LRT214 is a very solid entry-level, business-class, Gigabit Ethernet Virtual Private Network (VPN) router. While it's not a wireless router, it offers a well-rounded wired feature set that covers the basics as well as some advanced options, too. With a solid design, a small footprint, and an MSRP of just $179.99, it can be easily mounted in a network closet or placed on a desktop, making it a great solution for small to midsize businesses (SMBs) that need only wired networking and a fairly basic business feature set. Those with more advanced needs should check out the LRT214's big brother, the Linksys LRT224 ($319.91 at Amazon) . Design and InstallationUnpacking the LRT214 reveals a compact and sturdy router. Along the top, there are Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) for power, connectivity indicators for all Local Area Network (LAN) ports as well as two more indicators for its Wide Area Network (WAN) and Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) ports. The actual corresponding ports for a...

The Linksys LRT214 Business Gigabit VPN Router offers many properties of more expensive routers at a significantly lower price. While it falls short in a few minor areas, it more than makes up for this in functionality and supported standards.

Easy-to-manage VPN tunnels; Clean and easy-to-navigate user interface (UI); Mature network and firewall management; Excellent IPsec throughput; Built-in DNS server; Simple load balancing

DMZ port must be sacrificed to use WAN2; Lack of offline support; Logs are not searchable
