Verdict: LG presented two new mid-range smartphones next to its flagship LG G5 at MWC in Barcelona this year. Now we're putting one of those devices, the LG X Screen, to the test. One particularly exciting question is whether the second screen is really a selling point.

Verdict: With a name like LG X Screen, you might expect LG's latest to have a huge or super-sharp display. It has neither. In fact, it's a lot more interesting than that. Verdict: Only given 4 stars as I have only had it for 1 week. Easy to set up as I had previous LG/android phone so could retrieve all my data/apps from Google. More responsive than my previous phone.

Verdict: Smartphone manufacturers have become increasingly predictable of late, especially in terms of design. Which is why our hopes for change went up when we saw LG bring the concept of dual screen into a relatively affordable smartphone.

Verdict: The LG X Screen tries to be different from the pack, and even though it is, the lack of processing power, a sub-par camera and weakened battery life makes it inferior to fellow mid-range smartphones like the LeEco Le 2, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Moto G4 Plus and Honor 5C.

Verdict: High demand for low-cost smartphones this year in emerging markets is one of the main reasons for the growth in worldwide smartphone sales, according to research firm Gartner. Competition has never been fiercer in the sub-Rs.

Verdict: LG has taken a slightly different approach to its mid-range smartphones this year. Instead of simply creating a cheaper version of its flagship LG G5 , it's taking the phone's key features and sharing them out across several different handsets.

Verdict: Samsung had the best press conference, but LG had the best product. The LG G5 literally wowed the crowds at MWC and redefined what you can expect from a high-end smartphone. Its launch put its other new smartphones (announced during the week preceding MWC) with the X Cam and X Screen phones lying...

Verdict: It's thin, light and made from plastic, with fairly middling specs, but the second screen helps the X Screen stand out from the rest of the mid-range competition. Are two screens worth having on your smartphone, though? Based on a few short minutes with the X Screen, we're not sure. If battery life doesn't take a major hit then having notifications at a glance sounds good, but it'll proboably drain more juice than an OLED panel in the long run. LG hasn't set a price or official release date yet, so it's impossible to say how it stacks up against the rest of the field, but expect the X Screen to challenge other mid-range phones when it eventually arrives towards the end of March.
