LG UltraGear 38GN950 Review

The LG UltraGear 38GN950 is an excellent curved, widescreen gaming monitor thanks to top-notch colours and slick design. However, minor issues mean you can find better value elsewhere

Excellent colour quality; Versatile widescreen form factor; Impressive RGB LEDs; Solid adjustment and connectivity;

Middling contrast ratio; Subtle curve design; Extremely expensive;

LG UltraGear 38GN950 review

If you’re looking for the ultimate gaming monitor, the LG UltraGear 38GN950 is it. Combining a generous size, with super speed and fantastic image quality, this G-Sync-enabled ultra-wide screen is expensive – but it proves why the PC is the best platform to play on.

160Hz refresh rate; Super-responsive; Large screen; Looks fantastic;

Expensive; May be a bit too large for some; HDR can’t compete with high-end TVs

Best of the best

I only have good things to say about this beast of a monitor. I have been using it for more than a month now and I am still happy with this purchase. The quality of the display is fantastic and the menu is easy to use. I ended up mounting it on a monitor arm with no issues.

Excellent monitor for work and play

I had upgraded from the LG 34UC79G, which is a 1080 ultrawide, to the LG 34GN850, which is a 1440 ultrawide, early this year but I found the screen too small for the increase in resolution when I wasn't gaming, given the increased spacing between it and me on the new desk, so I upgraded again to the 38GN950, which is a 1600 ultrawide, and it's a lot better. At 100% font size in Windows the text isn't too small, and I don't have the scaling problems when using RDC to older Windows systems, so it is a pleasure to use when I'm working. It's a lot easier to write code when you don't have to keep scrolling up and down to see the whole function...view more

LG Ultragear 38GN950 review: A 38-inch 4K ultrawide gaming wonder

Technically, the LG UltraGear 38GN950 38-inch display is state-of-the-art and delivers incredible gaming performance with frame rates up to 160Hz. But considering you need to shell out almost $1,000, which is the about the same price as a budget gaming computer nowadays, this monitor is out of reach for all but the most hardcore gamers. Still, LG’s behemoth gaming display is worthy of the best gaming rigs.

The LG Ultragear 38GN950 is not a gaming monitor that’s accessible to the masses, but for passionate gamers with big wallets, this ultrawide is a dream. It comes with just about everything you could want in a premium display. Really the only knocks on it are the high power consumption while in use and the fact that it costs an arm and a leg.

Excellent gaming performance; Fast refresh rate; Beautiful curved, ultrawide screen; Nice ergonomic adjustment options;

High power consumption; Very expensive;
