LG G5 is built around a modular concept. There are currently two modules available that extend the functionality of the phone. The camera module slides onto the phone and transforms the phone into a camera including buttons and a camera grip. The audio module has been developed in co-operation with Bang & Olufsen (B&O).

LG decided to ditch the modular design for the successor LG G6 due to limited interest among consumers.

LG G5 review: a power user's friend that just misses the mark

The LG G5 is an interesting experiment. Its modular slot at the bottom of the phone holds potential, but I suspect it will never be filled. It does allow users to replace the battery while still providing a solid smartphone.
Pros:
  • modular design
  • great cameras
  • good screen
  • replaceable battery
  • microSD card slot
  • USB-C
Cons:
  • slightly less than premium build
  • battery life not the best
  • fingerprint scanner not quite as good as some

LG G5 Smartphone Review

LG has been really creative this year to get the attention of customers and we think the Korean company offers a successful overall package. The combination of a good display, proven camera and decent battery runtimes is a solid foundation.
Pros:
  • bright and high-contrast display
  • Always-On display
  • comprehensive security features
  • good cameras
  • great voice quality with good noise suppression
  • modular slot
  • fast storage
  • expandable storage
  • very fast SoC
Cons:
  • only USB 2.0, no App2SD, preloaded forced apps, only LTE Cat
  • 6, low resolution of the wide-angle lens, ambient light sensor sets the luminance too low, throttling under heavy workloads

New LG G5 Dual SIM 16MP 32GB Smartphone Pink review

With so many smartphones to choose from, it’s difficult for any one device to stand out. This is especially true for flagships that come packed with the best hardware and nearly every feature available.

LG G5 Review

LG has tried something a little bit different with the G5. While its predecessor was a decent handset with a solid collection of features, it didn't sell as well as LG was hoping due to strong competition from Samsung and Apple.
Pros:
  • Excellent range of hardware, including a fast Snapdragon 820, great 1440p display, fingerprint sensor, microSD card slot, and USB-C
  • Comfortable, ergonomic design
  • Dual camera system is versatile and takes fantastic photos
Cons:
  • The modular slot is a complete dud, providing no compelling additional features
  • LG's ‘metal' body is underwhelming
  • Software lacks the polish a high-end phone deserves
  • Disappointing battery life

LG G5

The LG G5 may be the most innovative smartphone of 2016, but it isn't the best. The modular design needs more thought, and the battery life should have been better. It is amongst the fastest phones in the market, though, and has a great camera.
Pros:
  • Extremely fast and powerful
  • Good display
  • Good camera
Cons:
  • Modular design needs more thought
  • Battery life needs to be better

LG G5 review: Modular misfire?

LG has its foot firmly on the gas. Its G5 flagship totally shake-ups the top-end phone market by introducing a module-based design so that additional accessory units can be added for new features and operation.
Pros:
  • Really good camera
  • plenty of power on board for slick experience
  • modules make a point of difference unlike the competition
  • decent Quad HD screen with at-a-glance always-on feature
Cons:
  • Not great battery life
  • design looks plasticky
  • modules impact design and we can't seem them catching on
  • fingerprint scanner small and less receptive than some competitors

LG G5 review: A flagship contender that needs some spit and polish

The smartphone world is a cut-throat space. While lesser phones squabble over features and price, flagships must stand apart and give people a compelling reason for choosing them. Apple's iPhones stand out by offering a unique platform, Samsung offers a best-in-class camera and gorgeous design with...

LG's G-series phones have always been a bit hit-or-miss, and last year's ( ) fell short in some departments, particularly when it came to battery life and software. The laser autofocus wasn't quite as intuitive as we had expected either.
