LEGO® BOOST Creative Toolbox 17101

Great gift for the 7 year old and 10 year old. They have different interests and this set is holding their focus for hours. They're having fun "coding" their creations (which is very easy with a series of directions they can drag and drop in the order they want their creation to move) and testing...

Nice build with son

The building process, via phone, was 'ok' but not the same as using the usual paper instructions. I actually liked the stages of the build, checking moment as you went. At first it was great...but then the batteries died! :-( Wow, that was quick.

Buyer Beware

So disappointed in this. My son really wanted this for Christmas. First the box arrives without packaging so he saw what it was. We go to assemble it only to learn it only operates with VERY specific smart devices-wouldn't even work with my newer iPhone! It didn't even come with directions.

Great intro to coding

I bought this for my 8 year old son for Christmas. Its fantastic, it's kept him entertained for days so far. He loves Lego but downloading the app onto the ipad then using 'code' to make the robots move etc has really caught his imagination and he's really getting into the coding part.

Great product

My 8 year old daughter loves this. Amazing to watch her build and then code movements, only made the robot so far, lots more to do. Make sure you check on the Lego site to make sure you have correct technology to run the app else you will be disappointed.

Lego Boost

We bought this for my grandson's 9th birthday, he absolutely loves it. Probably the only downside is you need a relatively new Apple Ipad, we do have one. I'm not sure if it's compatible with any other tablet. But he is really into Lego's, this was perfect for him.

Lego Boost Creative Toolbox review

This Lego set is far from perfect. It requires a tablet, lacks any sort of practical storage for the Lego pieces and is a far cry from the educational programme it claims to be. But as soon as you start strumming tunes on the guitar or playing games with Vernie, you’ll soon forget its flaws. Boost isn’t just ridiculously fun during assembly, but also for its many, many programmable talents. The killer feature, though, is that you get five for the price of one. Buy a separate toy robot, rover, cat, auto-builder and guitar and the price will likely approach the thousands. For just £150 you get them all-in-one here, plus the pleasure of building them all yourself. It’s a win-win situation. You save a few bucks, your kids will be entertained for months and Vernie… well, he’ll take another stride towards human annihilation. But I’ll take that any day if it means temporary peace from the younglings.

5-in-1 value; Super fun coding; Mind-blowing tech for a toy;

Requires tablet; No practical Lego storage; Limited educational benefit ;

Lego Boost Creative Toolbox Review

For kids who are a bit too young to handle Lego's venerable MindStorms robotics kits, look no further than its Boost Creative Toolbox ($159.99). Designed to introduce children ages 7 to 12 to coding and robotics, the Boost kit provides building blocks with sensors, motors, and app-based coding to help them build a variety of robotic toys that can respond to stimuli. It's a simple, fun, and relatively affordable approach that teaches the principles of programming, making it worthy of our Editors' Choice. What's in the Box? The kit uses a free downloadable app (for Android and iOS devices) that contains the building instructions and coding commands for five creations. In the box are the three main Boost bricks—the Bluetooth-connected Move Hub, a combination color-and-distance sensor, and an interactive motor. You also get 843 additional Lego pieces and a Playmat that's calibrated to the app and helps kids understand how code commands relate to the robot actions they drive. Yo...

Lego's Boost Creative Toolbox teaches kids that coding is a tool to make cool robots—and does so painlessly.

Easy, fun access to coding and robotics for young kids; Compatible with other Lego products; Lower price than competitors with similar ambitions

Lots of pieces to keep track of; Some projects may be overwhelming for kids on the younger end of the recommended age range
