Kobo Aura One is one of the largest eBook readers on the market and the screen measures 7.8-inch. Kobo has managed to preserve a pixel density of 300 dpi even though the size has increased. Hence, it's suitable e-reader if you need a large screen that displays text in a crisp manner.

This device is waterproof like the Aura H2O model and capable of storing 8 GB of content. It's also speedy by employing a 1 GHz processor and 512 MB internal memory.

The Aura One stands apart with a big display, waterproofing, and a nighttime-friendly display mode. Despite some quirks, it's a fine choice for shoppers not locked into Amazon's or B&N's e-reader ecosystem.
Pros:
  • Roomy 7.8-inch display
  • Terrific setting for adjusting color temperature of backlight
  • Waterproof
Cons:
  • Touch screen occasionally didn't respond well
  • No MicroSD card slot

Kobo Aura One

When you think of an e-reader, you probably think of Amazon. There's nothing wrong with that: after all, the company does make the best e-reader available right now with the Kindle Paperwhite . But the Kobo Aura One shouldn't instantly be dismissed just because it isn't made by Amazon.
Pros:
  • It's water-resistant
  • Big
  • crisp display
  • Pocket integration
  • Clean UI
Cons:
  • Slightly uneven backlight
  • Ecosystem not as strong as Amazon

Kobo Aura One review

Kobo's latest premium device is the phablet of the ereader world. It feels huge in the hand, at least right now – it may be that in five years' time a 7.8-inch screen ereader will be the norm.
Pros:
  • Larger
  • beautiful screen
  • Interesting night time reading idea
  • Waterproof design
Cons:
  • Hard to hold
  • Expensive for some
  • Lacking Amazon's store

Kobo Aura One review

The price might seem off-putting at first (after all, it's possible to get a Kindle for a third of the price, if you're willing to put up with 'special offers', or £70 if you're not) but there's plenty here to justify the expense.

I use -try to use- the product with bol.com in the Netherlands. It can't find books I have bought and paid for, it can't find books that are clearly there. I recommend waiting until their bugs haven been fixed
Pros:
  • physical product
Cons:
  • software nightmare

Great eReader

I love reading books, and have wanted to buy a eReader for a long time, but wasn't sure whether I would enjoy it as much as a real book, so one month ago I purchased the KOBO Aura 7.8" eReader, and I am absolutely thrilled with it, no matter what light I am under, the words are crystal clear, and...

When Kobo briefed me on the release of its new e-reader, a company rep explained that the company "[wasn't] sure if there was a premium price point" when they released the Aura HD back in 2013.
