Knack review – knackering the next?gen

A poor quality video game by any measure, but what this joyless throwback is doing being a key launch title for the PlayStation 4 Sony only knows.

There's a good amount of variety in the pleasingly colourful environments; The basic idea of absorbing relics has some promise

The gameplay is extremely simplistic, extremely repetitive, and extremely difficult – the latter for no obvious reason at all; Unimpressive graphics, made worse by slowdown

Knack

Knack is not only a miserably boring action game, but it features one of the worst heroes ever made. Knack is easy to kill, stupid looking and part of an adventure that will never end. This PlayStation 4 game is too difficult for kids and too generic for adults.

Knack

If you haven't heard the name Mark Cerny, you've definitely seen and played the games he has worked on and consulted for with franchises including Crash Bandicoot, God of War and Uncharted all enjoying his contributions and insights.

Knack

The Last of Us , Beyond: Two Souls , and Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus ).  The game's visual fidelity and polish are high everywhere, but other than the game's titular character, nothing in the game looks inspired.

Nothing special

The game is repetitive. It only takes two hits to kill Knack, and if he dies, you end up playing a lot of earlier material all over again! Knacks special skills also take a really long time to earn.

Kid Appropriate

Boring; No Online Play; Poor Graphics

Knack Review | Ruined Relic

Mark Cerny. Architect not only of beloved IPs such as Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter, and Spyro the Dragon, but also of the PlayStation 4 itself. This smiling genteel man has been one of the most visible exponents of innovative design over the years, no more so than in the past twelve months as Sony...

It's pretty to look at; Younger gamers might find something to enjoy here; Retro fans looking for a £50 challenge might get a kick out of it

Knack review

Sony has been saying for a while that it wants PlayStation 4 to take us back in time to a more innocent kind of gaming, but I didn't realise they meant it so literally until I played Knack, an old-fashioned platform brawler where you run around double-jumping and mashing buttons to punch goblins and...
