Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 review: A chunky USB 3.0 thumbdrive

The Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 is a chunky USB 3.0 thumbdrive with a good turn of speed and capacity up to 64GB
Pros:
  • Significantly faster than USB 2.0 flash drives
Cons:
  • A little on the chunky side
  • doesn't realise the full potential of USB 3.0

I purchased this flash drive last week and received it last Saturday. This drive's capless design is very nice and it even has an indicator light on the drive where the shield rotates on the drive itself (so you can tell if the drive is being actively accessed).

It was selected as part of "7 Hi-Speed and Professional Flash Drives for 2010" by HardwareInsight.com, and a detailed unboxing and review video by video blogger Linus Tech Tips does a competent job of walking through the DT 101 G2 drive's features.

I've only opened one so far and have been saving jpg images of my brother's comics as part of his Christmas present. At the present time, no problems. It is a simple USB link, showed up in my Windows Explorer without difficulties.

Kingston DataTraveler 101 G2 - 32GB Flash Drive

The capacity for the price is good. Kingston is also a good brand to buy. However this flash drive is painfully slow to copy to and from.

An amazing Flash Drive highly recommended. More than excellent value for money!!!

So starting another year of university and I felt I needed a new memory stick to be able to quickly store, organise and have another memory to store anything I would need for my course. I was looking around my local computer store and came across this.

Works and is cheap

But my big complaint is that they seemed to have changed the interior design a bit. The drives I just got no longer have an LED to indicate activity. I needed this and assumed that since the first box had this, the rest would too. I was mistaken. I am NOT happy about this.
Pros:
  • Works well for the price
Cons:
  • I have bought two boxes of these (25 in each) separated by a couple of months
  • The first drive I tried died in a few minutes.

Wow wow wow. This USB flash drive is fast, very fast. USB3.0 makes a huge speed difference and Kingston G2 Ultimate has been made for speed and nothing else but speed!
