Kingston SSDNow V300 (120GB & 240GB) Review

I have one issue with the V300: There's nothing particular in it that would differentiate it from the other SandForce based SSDs. While Kingston said they did lots of customization and worked closely with SandForce/LSI, at least in our testing there aren't any striking differences.

Kingston SSDNow V300 (120GB) Solid State Drive Review

The drive is available at RM 299 but it doesn't come with an installation kit, and yet it costs more than the Intel 330 series of the same size that comes with an installation kit (RM 269)! I didn't buy an Intel 330 series because I already have one, so I thought to give Kingston's drive a spin.

Great value with lots of accessories

The drive, like other SSD's, is fast & quiet. The capacity is small in today's standards, but that's fine for my application. It came with everything that is needed to mount internally AND externally -- mounting brackets USB2.0 external enclosure and cable.

Fast and comes with extras to mount the drive both Internally & Externally

Would've been better if the external I/F was USB 3.0

Just as you rise you shall fall because the only guarantees in life are death and taxes. The LSI SandForce SF-2281 has reached middle age and like every mid-life crisis, things are starting to change.

Kingston V300 240GB

We've seen solid state drives become very popular over the last couple of years, as prices have continued to drop and consumers are taking notice of the impressive overall system boost that SSDs can offer.

Faster speeds than specification; robust accessory package; competitive price; customized controller by LSI

SandForce 2281 struggles with incompressible data; not fastest SSD on the market

Kind of a let down

I was expecting the full read and write performance that it said on the box but I guess those were for the higher capacity drives because I know that the higher capacity the better the performance but I was still expecting somewhat closer to the advertise price.

Good GB to dollar price ratio -Boot up time with a Windows 8 64-bit OS is less than 2 seconds

-They advertise a sequential read and write of 450 mb/s but when doing crystal disk benchmark only got 160 mb/s for sequential read and 180 mb/s of sequential write; Even if the drive was brand new and nothing much was installed except for the OS and only had 11% space being used.

Kingston SSDNow V300 128GB Solid State Drive Review

We have seem over the past year or so that the SSDNow series is aimed that the budget consumer. The one that wants the core essentials of a solid state drive without having to pay out the nose for it, this series from Kingston has been just that.
