Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning review

If IKEA sold RPG games, this is probably what they'd squeeze into a flat-pack.

Visceral, clever combat; A large, rolling landscape with varied characters and encounters; Clever player-building options that seldom feel forced.

A real compendium of other RPG tropes with little innovation bought to the table; Fussy camera angles at times, and cinematic scenes lack polish.

Great game

Well worth the money, especially when I reserved it here and got it for a great deal. There is literally soo much content to cover in this game from side quests to faction quests to main storyline. Reminds me of a cross between Gd of War and Fable.

Great combat system Fun gameplay Strong RPG elements Easy menus AI animations Plenty of content

Sometimes camera angles get messed up Cant zoom out Poor story - very random

Even the greatest role-playing games aren't necessarily known for their great combat. They're frequently praised for their ambitious worlds, their involving stories, and the element of choice. But when you talk about your favorite RPGs, it's not often that the action is what you talk about first.

Top-notch combat with a real punch; Fantastic; flexible character advancement; Some great-looking creatures; Extensive world with tons of stuff to do and lots of monsters to fight

Generic story and characters; Generic world; Generic quests

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Review

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is a single-player action RPG set on the mythical world of Amalur, and limited to the Faelands – one of the kingdoms. KoA: Reckoning was jointly developed by 38 Studios and Big Huge Games, and published by EA Games.

Great weapons; Interesting combat; Good graphics; design

No puzzle-based quests; No jump; climb ability; Not much else but combat

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Review (PS3, Xbox 360)

Ever since its announcement there has been a capacious amount of buzz surrounding Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, and not just because 38 Studios founder, Curt Schilling, happens to be a retired baseball hero.

Well above 40 hours of content; Character progression is non-intrusive; Variety of skills to upgrade; Successful binding of hack n' slash; action RPG; and MMO genres; Crafting is actually useful; adding depth to the already thorough loot system; The foundational lore propping the game up is...

Simple A to B plot made worse by one-dimensional; ultimately forgettable characters; Borrows from the MMO genre a little too much; Combat could still use a bit of work

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (XBOX360, PS3, PC)

The latest game up for review is Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, an action-RPG developed by Big Huge Games and published by EA. Now, the easiest way to break this game down for you would be to name the two or three games that it derives its entire existence from: 1) The graphical vividness, combat...

KoA:R's combat is its ultimate saving grace; I like to rattle on about the game is borrowing from here and stealing from there, and given enough time I could probably give a similar explanation for its combat..; But it's just so much fun that I really don't want to.

The name of the game here is graphics and glitches; Though much of KoA:R seems pretty high-grade, the character models seem surprisingly slipshod at times; In dialogue you can often make out some murky low-quality textures on the face of whoever you're speaking to, and a general woodenness to their...

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Review

Every mortal of Amalur is born inside the weave of fate, doomed to walk along an unchangeable path and endure predetermined events – except for you, the hero. How exactly you fell is unknown, nor is it important, because fate can now be twisted to your liking.

Fluid; rewarding combat; Deep character customization

Tiring side-quests; Generic environments; Confusing plot

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

I've got a bit of a confession -- I don't worship at the altar of Skyrim . Now, don't get me wrong, I appreciate the amount of work that went into it, and sheer craftsmanship that it must have taken to make the kingdom of Skyrim so realistic -- I just find myself getting bored very quickly.

Good, but...

This is first RPG I played on my PS3, and whilst it borrows much from A Gathering of Twine (The Spirals of Danu) , it is neither as immersive or engaging. So, the first thing that struck me was the graphics. VERY pretty.

Kingdoms of Amalur

If you were a successful sportsman worth millions of dollars what would you do with your retirement? Buy a yacht perhaps? Take up golf? Or would you set up your very own development studio, hire the best in the business and make your own ideal fantasy role playing game?
