Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (PC)

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is one of those games, that when reviewed at this late in the game, is somewhat of a tragedy.  38 Studios, the current owner and creator of the property, has since gone bankrupt, and been liquidated.

Very large world, with over 200 quests, and many, many hours of content; interesting factions, with a fairly well realized world back story; excellent combat, spell, and enemy animations; good voice acting; enjoyable music; very nice graphics and art style; really well polished with relatively few...

A somewhat generic fantasy world; some voice actors are reused often; some characters are forgettable; many quests are standard RPG fare; rarely do you get the sense that what choices you make really change the world; a few minor interface glitches

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (XBOX360, PS3, PC)

The latest game up for review is Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, an action-RPG developed by Big Huge Games and published by EA. Now, the easiest way to break this game down for you would be to name the two or three games that it derives its entire existence from: 1) The graphical vividness, combat...

KoA:R's combat is its ultimate saving grace; I like to rattle on about the game is borrowing from here and stealing from there, and given enough time I could probably give a similar explanation for its combat..; But it's just so much fun that I really don't want to.

The name of the game here is graphics and glitches; Though much of KoA:R seems pretty high-grade, the character models seem surprisingly slipshod at times; In dialogue you can often make out some murky low-quality textures on the face of whoever you're speaking to, and a general woodenness to their...

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Review

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is a single-player action RPG set on the mythical world of Amalur, and limited to the Faelands – one of the kingdoms. KoA: Reckoning was jointly developed by 38 Studios and Big Huge Games, and published by EA Games.

Great weapons; Interesting combat; Good graphics; design

No puzzle-based quests; No jump; climb ability; Not much else but combat

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Review

Every mortal of Amalur is born inside the weave of fate, doomed to walk along an unchangeable path and endure predetermined events – except for you, the hero. How exactly you fell is unknown, nor is it important, because fate can now be twisted to your liking.

Fluid; rewarding combat; Deep character customization

Tiring side-quests; Generic environments; Confusing plot

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Review (PC)

Nowadays, all new triple-A titles are a rare sight, so Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, coming from 38 Studios and Big Huge Games, definitely stands out from the array of sequels or reboots that are arriving on the market.

+Dynamic combat; +Lots of choices and freedom; +Stylized visuals

-Annoying mini-games; -Problematic camera

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Review

An action-RPG that mixes the pleasures of the arcade and the depth of vast open worlds, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is a worthy first entry into what is likely to be a successful series.

Fantastic action and combat; Interesting world to explore; Plenty of variety and customization

Repetition in quests; enemies; and loot; Fairly cliche RPG story; narrative; Some minor technical issues

Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning – Review (PS3, 360, PC)

As a lover of RPG's I couldn't wait to get my hands on this game when I was asked to review it. Published by EA Games, developed by Big Huge Games and written by acclaimed author R.A Salvatore the pedigree was undeniable so would it live up to my expectations?

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Progression also leads to better weapons, armour and other equipment. Unfortunately, this leads to the old RPG conundrum of inventory – what to keep and what to dispose of. Since you can't keep everything with the limited inventory space, gamers will either be constantly running back and forth to a...

The amount of character customisation open to the gamer is amazing

The combat controls seem somewhat console orientated.

Review: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Kingdoms of Amalur is a fantastic example of a Western RPG that skimps somewhat on fleshing out characterizations and differentiating itself from the crowd, but nevertheless delivers an extremely solid experience.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

I've got a bit of a confession -- I don't worship at the altar of Skyrim . Now, don't get me wrong, I appreciate the amount of work that went into it, and sheer craftsmanship that it must have taken to make the kingdom of Skyrim so realistic -- I just find myself getting bored very quickly.
