JBL E55BT Quincy Edition Review

Quincy Jones fans will love the clean looks and tight sound profile the legend brings to the JBL E55BT.

Bright; vibrant upper register; Wide soundstage; Stylish design; Easy connectivity; Above-average battery life

Poor passive noise isolation; Restrained bass response; Pricier than base model

JBL E55BT

Not everyone wants to spend $300 on a premium Bluetooth headphone, which is where products like JBL's E55BT come in. An over-ear headphone and top-end model in JBL's "value" E-Series line of wireless headphones, the E55BT is the successor to the E50BT and retails for $150, £100 and AU$230.

The JBL E55BT is an attractively designed over-ear Bluetooth headphone that's relatively comfortable, sounds decent and works reliably; It folds up and flat and has decent battery life

A bit of treble push; no carrying case included

JBL E55BT

Generally speaking, the E55BT headphones offer a sculpted-but-balanced audio experience, with robust bass response and crisp, clear highs. It's not a flat response sound signature, but it will appeal to listeners who like a little added bass depth without throwing the entire balance of the mix off.

Powerful audio performance with strong bass and crisp highs; Exceptionally comfortable, even during long listening sessions; Includes cable for wired, passive listening

No included carrying case or pouch; Sculpted sound signature not for purists

JBL's E-Series headphones are designed to bring the company's signature sound in a range of headphone models with a focus on style. At the top of the E-series lineup sits the E55BT wireless headphones.

Very good audio performance for the price; Lightweight and ultra compact when folded; Flawless multi-device Bluetooth pairing

Remote control functionality can be awkward; No Siri; aptX; or aptX HD support; No carrying case or travel pouch

JBL E55BT wireless over-ear headphones review

So, what's my bottom line here? The JBL E55BT headphones are some nice headphones. The sound is great, not overly bass-boosted. This allows me to listen to all my music from classical to punk and all in between.

Good sound; Comfortable fit; Great battery life

JBL E55BT Quincy Edition Wireless On-Ear Headphones Review

The JBL E55BT Quincy Edition Headphones are not perfect, but they are a great pair of headphones for the price. Between their excellent sound quality, attractive design, solid comfort and great battery life, they are absolutely worthy of the Quincy Jones name.

Excellent balanced audio; superb battery life; well-priced; headphones charge up quickly; comes with a cable for when the battery runs out; attractive and lightweight; quality build

Earcup fit is comfy but also an awkward fit; call quality is not the greatest; can't charge the headphones and use them at the same time

JBL E55BT Quincy Edition Headphones: Quincy Jones' Signature Sound

As you can see, the headphones fold flat for travel

Incredibly light and comfortable enough to wear all day; Headphones are stylish without being too flashy; Fold flat for travel and storage; Up to 20 hours playback; Connect up to two devices for easy switching back and forth between sources; Great for vocal heavy music

If you prefer a more bass-heavy tuning; then these may not be the headphones for you

better than expected

As someone who has been reading BT headset reviews for a few years now, there is something everyone should understand by now. There are no headphones designed to last more than a few years (short of studio headphones that do not travel, and cost an arm + leg + and your first born).
