Shame about the setup experience

The, app-based config setup didn't work for me (IOS version of app, Vodafone fibre). So gave up on this silly app config stuff, got out an ethernet cable and pc and did it old school 192.168.3.1 via the console. Worked then. But if you are not confident with doing router config DO BOT BUY! Apart from that it seems to work well. Minor Irritation is that the power cables aver very short. Maybe something to do with the Ethernet over Power (which didn't work in my place anyway). Beware the Huawei support number. Option 1 for modems and routers "Huawei branded routers and modems are customised to service providers requirements. Please dial...view more

Great system

Uses powerline LAN to connect the three units as well as a lan connection for extra speed if you want to set up that way. One issue I had was the setup. At first I attempted to use the mobile app, but that did not provide the options required to set up the spark fibre correctly. I had to use a PC connected to the system to do this, however once done the rest of the setup was very easy. Speed is good and the drop outs we used to experience on TVNZ on demand have gone. Coverage with three units is excellent with two units on one level of our house and the other unit downstairs. ...view more

Great wifi data but not good for VoIP calls

Recommended by someone very focussed on data speeds. That's fine, but I also make a lot of voice calls on cloud based phone systems for my home-office work. This router has no SIP ALG function, which is a must for clear call quality for your voice calls. Disabling SIP ALG is possible on even low grade routers so its a mystery why they don't include this. Huawei Customer Support had no solution. I've raised 2 cases and also gone through Huawei NZ to find a solution. Product will need to be replaced. Only good for those who need fast data and are not making calls from their laptop softphone or wifi.

Fixed Issues with Vodafone Fibre (Update)

See my previous 1-star review as was stumped why only base would work. Happy to amend to 5 Star. Issues were caused by the non-removal of the Vodafone router (thanks to an online forum and Huawei for the help - I had ended up with a NAT issue as a result). This system is designed as a full replacement ie remove the ISP router. Once that was gone I was able to configure using the settings on the second image on this page (would reject while it was there). The base unit I now plugged in direct to the ONT in the garage with my switches in the plan ports on the Q2. Then the two additional units the closer one first mid house which took a bit of...view more

Follow the PBtech video's advice

I have had this mesh system for a while and like it. I wish the Pbtech installation video was around when I bought it as the suggestion of configuring the mesh router to connect straight into the Chorus fibre box (ONT) is really helpful. It gave a slight increase in speed and removes clutter.
