Some are describing the 6.1-inch Huawei P20 Pro's Leica triple camera as the best smartphone camera on the market, but there are plenty of other features in this flagship model.

Triple Treat Camera

The three-camera system really does take amazing photos and is worthy of all the plaudits. The move towards intelligent photography and the 40 MP RGB camera, means incredible shots can be taken in all sorts of conditions, including low light. It's worth noting that the base model Huawei P20 "only" sports two rear cameras, so the triple camera is a point of differentiation between the two phones.

Getting Close Up And Personal

A complaint about many smartphone cameras is the lack of zoom. That complaint is rendered obsolete in the P20 Pro which features Leica's 5X Hybrid Zoom. Even if you're taking a shot from some distance, this zoom lens system will allow you to capture fantastic detail and clarity.

The front selfie camera has a resolution of 24 MP. This is a high-resolution for a front camera, but Huawei the phone relies on it for speedy face recognition to unlock the phone.

What Colour Is It?

Luminescent colour progression is another talking point, and one that makes the P20 Pro stand out in a crowded smartphone market. The unique gradient colour finish is available in some models and is a big seller for customers who want their phone to appear different to the rest.

Dazzling Display

Huawei's FullView Display is at its best when seen on the P20 Pro's 6.1-inch OLED display. Huawei claim the range and clarity of colours makes this their best screen to date, while the edgeless fingerprint sensor with smart navigation boosts functionality as well.

Plenty Of Power

The Huawei P20 Pro has a huge battery, enabling you to enjoy that amazing camera and other features for longer. The 4,000 mAh battery is not only power-packed, but it can also fast-charge thanks to Huawei SuperCharge. The Kirin 970 processor is the same chip that Mate 10 Pro employs.

A newer model Huawei P30 Pro 8GB 256GB was released in April 2019.

When faced with a device like the Huawei P20 Pro - which emphasizes the camera side of the equation so strongly - you inevitably have to scrutinize just how important a part of the overall picture a smartphone's camera really is.
Pros:
  • Phenomenal camera
  • Really competitive price
Cons:
  • EMUI remains a weakness
  • No headphone jack

Huawei P20 Pro review: See it and believe the hype

A good smartphone is more than just a camera - and while the P20 Pro’s camera do catch more of the finer details than the competition can, a lot of elements around that camera don’t always deliver on the same level. When faced with a device like the Huawei P20 Pro - which emphasizes the camera side of the equation so strongly - you inevitably have to scrutinize just how important a part of the overall picture a smartphone’s camera really is. After all, these days, once you go above $800 or so, the differences between the different smartphones you can buy largely come down to two things: the software experience and the camera.
Pros:
  • Phenomenal camera
  • Really competitive price
Cons:
  • EMUI remains a weakness
  • No headphone jack

Huawei P20 Pro review

In the P20 Pro Huawei has delivered a stunning phone which should be on your shortlist along with the Galaxy S9 and iPhone X. Sure, there are some niggles such as the lack of stabilisation for 4K video, no headphone jack and no wireless charging, but if your priority is photography then the P20 Pro does not disappoint. Add in the long battery life, dual SIM slots and great screen and you've got the complete package: this is one of the best phones of 2018. It's a fair amount more than the regular model so save yourself £200 on the regular P20 if you don't mind 'only' dual rear cameras, no waterproofing and an LCD screen vs OLED.

Wow! Bought this when mate came, because the price broke. For what I get, I really find nothing to complain about. All it does makes it extremely effective. Battery, camera, onion etc. After a few weeks of use, I'm still impressed and find new interesting features and stuff. Highly recommended!

Despite the technical prowess, it's been a bit of a struggle for the P series phones to be seen as a proper premium flagship every year. The phones usually don't hit until midyear, by which time it's often seen more as something "you should also consider this " rather than a top contender for the...

There's a lot to love about the Huawei P20 Pro . Even with a few other features that aren't world-leading, the triple camera surpasses any contender in its wake, delivering great images, and even more spectacular in low light in comparison.
