Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Review

Revisiting past masters is a prickly business that video games are only just beginning to dabble in, with varying degrees of success. Do you go for preservation or reinvention? Either way, you've got to tread carefully, for you're stepping on the precious memories of those who hold the originals...

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Review

Who doesn't get sentimental when they hear the word "anniversary" To many people, it's a time of reflection and looking back on all those great years that have passed. For some, it's a chance to show off all the weight they've lost and talk about how amazing their new job at ImARichBastardNYoureNot...

Return of a classic; Updated with; Toggling between new and original graphics; It's Halo

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary

Stop in and say 'Halo' to an old friend

Halo's campaign remains the standard that all other sci-fi shooters are measured against; really nice graphical upgrade and 5.1 surround support; creative weapons and enemy designs; co-op play over Xbox Live; good value at $39.99

Multiplayer is little more than a map-pack for Halo: Reach; best multiplayer levels from the original didn't make the cut; Kinect functionality is gimmicky at best; some level designs show the game's true age

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary

When the original Xbox released in 2001 there were two games that most considered must buys when purchasing the system. One was a fighting game while the other was a first person shooter.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary

It's hard to believe it's been a full 10 years since the first Halo debuted. But if you were to pop in that game now, it's not hard to imagine a Combat Evolved first-timer or anyone who hasn't played the game since the Xbox days pausing at its creaky, decade-old visuals.

+ Beautiful facelift to the classic game; + Impressive array of extra features

? How did we play games with no sprint; regenerating health or cover mechanic

Xbox 360 Review - 'Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary'

Remaking movies is an inherently perilous endeavor. It's rare that the remake is critically or popularly considered the finer version of the film. There are bold, notable exceptions, like Alfred Hitchcock, with Jimmy Stewart and Doris Day, remake of his own " The Man Who Knew Too Much .

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Review

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is almost as good in reality as it ever was in your memory. The graphical update is welcome and the multiplayer maps are decent if not amazing. There are a few rough edges and cracks around the once infallible gameplay, but nothing that would stop you enjoying Halo:...

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary (X360) - Review

Twelve years ago, a successful but relatively small studio unveiled what was to be a revolutionary first person shooter at Macworld… and then Microsoft bought them. Halo: Combat Evolved became the exclusive killer-app for Xbox.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Review

- The game includes more updates and upgrades than I expected, and it's nice to have Master Chief back again even if it is in a game we've technically all played before. Certain sections seem more linear and artificially extended than I recall, which is disappointing, but when you account for the...
