Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary review

10 years, two sequels, two spinoffs, one prequel and countless companion media later, it's remarkable how many gamers still say that the original Halo is their favorite entry in the entire franchise. Is that opinion based on objective quality or subjective nostalgia?

The new look never ceases to amaze; Fan service hidden in every mission; Classic gameplay unaltered from 2001

Classic gameplay not as classic as you remember; Only half the multiplayer you might have expected; Were there always this many Hunters?

[viddler id=1ce3afa6&w=900&h=570] A transcription of the review is below: John-117 returns to relive his first battle against the Covenant in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary , a reimagining of the original smash hit.

Beautiful HD restoration; Same excellent Halo gameplay we know and love

Multiplayer taken from Reach; not the original; Driving still SUCKS

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary

It's hard to believe it's been a full 10 years since the first Halo debuted. But if you were to pop in that game now, it's not hard to imagine a Combat Evolved first-timer or anyone who hasn't played the game since the Xbox days pausing at its creaky, decade-old visuals.

+ Beautiful facelift to the classic game; + Impressive array of extra features

? How did we play games with no sprint; regenerating health or cover mechanic

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Review

When Microsoft handed the Halo torch from Bungie to 343 Industries in 2010, fans of the series were distraught that their beloved franchise was no longer going to be in the hands of its creator.

Seamlessly switch between old and new graphics; Gorgeous redone maps from Halo: CE and Halo: 2; Campaign collectibles explore Forerunner history

No energy swords in campaign; Campaign remains tedious in parts

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary

It was ten years ago that Halo: Combat Evolved was released on the original Xbox. The series would go on to create a standard for the first-person shooter genre and arguably help secure the Xbox as a household name.

Xbox 360 Review - 'Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary'

Remaking movies is an inherently perilous endeavor. It's rare that the remake is critically or popularly considered the finer version of the film. There are bold, notable exceptions, like Alfred Hitchcock, with Jimmy Stewart and Doris Day, remake of his own " The Man Who Knew Too Much .

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary (Xbox360)

The importance of the original Halo on the original Xbox can't be overstated, nor can it be denied. While not the very first console-based first-person shooter, it was the one that popularised the idea of this genre on anything other than a computer while the game's resultant success no doubt played...

Well-made but bloody overhaul of classic alien shooter.

Parents need to know Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is a violent first-person shooter that has players killing thousands of aliens with all kinds of weapons of both the modern (shotguns, pistols, sniper rifles) and futuristic/alien (plasma cannons and needle guns) varieties.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary

When the original Xbox released in 2001 there were two games that most considered must buys when purchasing the system. One was a fighting game while the other was a first person shooter.

It's Halo but prettier

It's Halo but with updated graphics and music, though you can easily change both back to their original states from the pause menu. No noticeable changes in gameplay minus your jumping reaching a shorter distance. I definitely recommend this for any Halo fan who still uses their 360!
