Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary

Halo is undoubtedly the biggest title in the history of Xbox gaming. It may not be the best, though some would argue a pretty good case, and it may not be the biggest selling. But what it did after launching ten years ago was to give the new platform the true triple-A title that it needed, and...

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Review

Many entertainment items belong in the hallowed halls of retrospect where silver isn't merely limited to their linings. This is because of how beautifully our brains work in regards to treasured memories.

19th November 2011 - I've been a fan of the Halo series since I played the first game as a kid, in a living room, surrounded by pizza boxes, empty Coke bottles and friends. To me, there's never been anything quite like the Halo series when it comes to fun with mates, and Anniversary is no exception...

Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary Review

Halo enthusiasts will love returning to Combat Evolved, if not to remember how well-balanced the combat and weaponry are, then to see the game in an entirely new light. The new HD graphics engine brings the game into this generation, although the presentation on its own certainly won't blow you...

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Review

It might not deal with terrorists or modern combat, but Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary remains a downright enjoyable experience from start to finish that most gamers should experience. Plus, it has Master Chief, and let's face it - he's all kinds of bad arse.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary review

Microsoft has sought to indulge Xbox fans with a graphical overhaul of the original Halo: Combat Evolved for the Xbox 360. Like all trips down memory lane it's bitter-sweet, but the emphasis is firmly on the latter.

Graphical upgrades; Classic multiplayer maps and a new firefight map; The magnum

Occasionally loses something in the translation; 343's additions are a bit flat; No four-player split-screen

"Forgot how long and epic this game was!"

So cool to pick this up so many years later, the gameplay is still awesome. The HD graphics aren't quite as good as the recent Halo games, but still a huge improvement over the first game.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Review

If you've ever played an Xbox in your life, then odds are that you've played Halo: Combat Evolved , which launched the system and captivated millions of players. But the question isn't "How good was it then?" It's "How good is it now?" The answer: It's still really, really good.

Remastered visuals feature beautiful lighting and environmental detail; Campaign is still exciting and satisfying; Multiplayer maps are great fun to revisit; Iconic soundtrack is still excellent; Switching between classic and remastered presentation is entertaining

Checkpoint system can be unreliable; Only one-third of the original multiplayer maps are included; Kinect voice commands are largely useless

GET BUNGIE

Great product, I would sadly scratch my disk on accident 5 days after purchase and they offered no assistance. Got a new one on the way from a different source. It is like a mix of one and 4 with the pistols being key, and the game play being Microsoft.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary

Ten years on and Halo Anniversary's worst bits are more numerous than you remember - but its best bits are better than you could ever have hoped.

Some of the best levels in shooter history; Beautiful new HD mode courtesy of Saber Interactive; A solid combat model that works as well in 2011 as it did in 2001

Were there; Bonus features locked away for everyone without a Kinect
