HP LaserJet Pro 400 Color MFP M475dn

The HP LaserJet Pro 400 Color MFP M475dn ($699 direct) has an awkward name, and nobody is going to give it any awards for speed. But it has a good feature set and above-average output; it's especially strong in graphics.

Good output quality; headed by very good graphics.

Slow print speed; Slightly sub-par text quality

LASERJET PRO 400 COLOR M451DN PRINTER

Does it do its job? The main points are: are the prints high quality? Is it fast enough? Is it reliable? The print is all three. Then is it affordable. The cost of the printer itself is okay, but per- cost is relatively high since toner is expensive. Other things are good.

Reliable; fast; and quality prints

Toner is expensive

It's tempting to look at a multifunction printer that offers fax and ethernet facilities and conclude that it's a business printer. The Canon Pixma MX895, though, more than almost any other MFP we've seen, caters for everyone.

Kyocera Mita FS-1035MFP

Kyocera Mita's FS-1035MFP is a fast, economical mono laser multifunction with full duplex print, scan and copy. So what if it costs £500?

Fast print engine; Optional paper trays up to 800 sheets; Front panel USB port

Can't print jpegs from USB drives; Toner loading awkward; Graphic print a bit blotchy

HP Photosmart 5520

The HP Photosmart 5520 is an inexpensive multifunction printer that offers built-in duplexing, a touch panel and ePrint capabilities. It also provides reliable and good looking output but it lacks an automatic document feeder and the scanner lid hinge does not float to accomodate thicker items.

Affordable initial cost & ink; Wireless ePrint capabilities; Built-in duplexing; Very good output quality

Scanner lid hinge does not float; No automatic document feeder

HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One review

A considerably pared-down version of HP's 7520 multifunction printer, the HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One offers some surprising features despite its relatively modest sub-£100 price tag.

Nice touchscreen interface; delicious price tag; low running costs; memory card slot

Some design flaws; no additional photo tray; no PictBridge port; depth of detail isn't strong; photo paper results moderately bubbly

Printer ink cartridges

I bought my air printer about six months ago and have had absolutely no problems with it except that the ink cartridges are constantly running out. they are cheaper than most but you need four different colours so the costs add up.

Great printer! Trips arc-fault circuit breakers.

I have owned Brother laser printers for over a decade. They are great workhorses and rarely give me trouble. Recently, my 7-yr old Brother MFC-8640D ran out of toner and needed a new drum.

Enjoying the Printer

We were looking for a laser home printer with Airprint as well as duplex printing and scanning. Printing and scanning work well and are very fast. Adding as a network for the printer was very easy. So far very pleased. Too early to tell on economy.

great printer let down by the out 'tray'

Can someone explain why HP have suddenly started putting a pathetically flimsy little plastic flip out arm - that barely holds 10 sheets of paper let alone the 15 it claims - on all their domestic printers ? They've finally started using seperate inks for each colour.
