Hitman 3 review

IO Interactive’s Hitman formula was pretty much perfected with Hitman and Hitman 2, so giving us more of the same with Hitman 3 feels totally adequate. More than that, in fact: with the ability to import all your progress and all of the series’ locations into Hitman 3, it’s the definitive way to experience this fantastic game. We’re just sorry that this seems to spell the end for Agent 47’s adventures, at least for now, but hey – we’ll always have Paris. And Sapienza, and Hokkaido, and Miami, and Dartmoor.

Rich, intricate sandbox locations; Beautiful graphics and environments; Carries over content from Hitman and Hitman 2;

No ambitious gameplay changes;

Hitman 3 Review

Hitman 3 is an accomplished conclusion to IO Interactive’s stealth trilogy, even if it fails to reach the ambition set out by its narrative, often losing focus on what made it so special in the first place. Look past such flaws and you’ll find the murderous shenanigans intact, continuing to offer a superbly engaging experience that encourages you to play levels again and again in search of the perfect recipe for assassination.

Maintains and improves upon an already brilliant gameplay formula ; A satisfying conclusion to the trilogy’s narrative; Provides Agent 47 with a new set of fantastic levels to explore ; Tone remains a great mixture of slapstick comedy and spy thriller ;

Some missions can feel overly linear and unsatisfying ;

Hitman 3 review: A satisfying conclusion to the trilogy

The “world of assassination” label has been the tagline of the current Hitman games starting with IO Interactive’s Hitman in 2016. Hitman 3 is the final piece of that assassination puzzle, offering a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy with its grandest locations yet and the ability to experience any of the three games’ offerings. However, while Hitman 3 provides some of the series’ most intricate scenarios, there are still a few features it lacks that prevent it from being the definitive stealth experience that it should be. Before diving in, I want to make it clear that I initially requested a PlayStation code in order the review the game, specifically for its VR component. PlayStation review codes were ultimately not made available to the press before the review embargo, and therefore we were not able to get hands on with the VR edition of Hitman 3. With the recent precedent of console codes not being made available before review embargoes lift having disastrous consequences, Digit...

Intricate, textured locations; Strong gameplay loop; New mechanics to incentivize replay;

Missing difficulty customizations;

Hitman 3 review

Hitman 3 adds little twists on the series' formula, but doesn’t stray too far from what made the 2016 reboot and its sequel great. The stealth, combat and the way you murder your victims remain almost identical to previous iterations, but the new locations include some all-time greats. Hitman 3’s locations mix up the formula with more experimental objectives, which see you doing more than just murdering your victims in exotic locations like Argentina, China and Dubai. The storyline is more gripping than previous installments, too, with a bigger focus on Agent 47’s journey and relationships rather than all the focus being taken up by the story of your targets. This final entry in the trilogy gave us some of the greatest jaw-drop moments that we’ve ever experienced from IO Interactive’s murder simulator.

Great living and breathing locations; Looks fantastic on next-gen; Tweaks to the expected formula;

Cutscenes don’t look the best; Could be more replayable; New camera tool doesn’t add much
