Barely a year has passed and Codemasters has released a new instalment to its Grid racing series. Considering there was a five year gap between the first game and Grid 2, the quick release of Grid Autosport comes as a pleasant surprise.
A return to motor racing roots; Bigger track selection
Game engine is a bit long in the tooth; Cockpit view lacks details
Strong all-round package.Well varied career mode, good AI,Split-screen,decent car list, would love to be able to track my results for each season and have my own team but that is a minor complaint.Great game, would suggest especially if you hated GRID 2.
Despite what GRID: Race Driver purists might have thought, we actually really liked GRID 2 a lot. Where the original game was challenging, yet fun, GRID 2 walked a fine line between knockabout arcade handling and simulation, making it accessible but not too accessible.
When it comes to turning digital laps on the asphalt, no other company is more synonymous with that experience than Codemasters. Developers of such famed racing titles as
It's never easy to review a racing game, because everyone has a completely different skill level and a different expectation of what they're going to receive from the game. Some games are strictly fun and lighthearted, and some are nothing but simulation racing.
Codemasters messed up with GRID 2 , arguably for the first time in its racing game career. While reviews were at least lukewarm, the message from the community was clear: it was too dumbed-down, too arcade-y and didn't place enough emphasis on the thing that matters most - the racing.
It's still far from perfect but the improvements here are enough to help fans forget GRID 2, and hope that GRID 3 will be the game they really want.
Improved handling and mountains of content and variety; Excellent graphics and great online modes; The Americanised presentation has been ditched and the in-car camera has returned
Almost no new ideas and a lot of repurposed assets, which is hard to forgive given it's a full price game; The career mode is boring and restrictive, with too much grinding
Grid AutoSport for the Xbox 360 is full of major defects that make the game virtually unplayable. Nearly 2 months after its release, none of its problems have been patched. If you look at the official CodeMasters forums, you can see tons of players across all platforms reporting numerous issues.
This is personally the last straw for me with this developer - there have been at least 4 games in the past 5 or 6 years from them with the same kind of issue. Tired of being their beta-tester on my own dime.
Decent graphics; passable physics
Game-breaking bug will corrupt your save file over and over, wiping out all your hard work in both career and online - as of mid August, 2014, this issue has not been corrected; Check out Codemasters' forum for details - but DO NOT BUY THIS GAME until they correct the issues.
