Google Pixel 4A 5G (128GB, Black) Australian Stock - Refurbished (Excellent) review

The Google Pixel 4A 5G is a good phone for reasons that have almost nothing to do with the “5G” in the name. The ostensible reason for the phone to exist is to offer 5G connectivity to customers who want a more affordable phone. It starts at $499 for most carriers but costs $599.99 on Verizon.

6.2-inch OLED screen, Great camera, including ultrawide, Good battery life

No IP68 water or dust rating, No wireless charging, 5G tax increases price, especially on the mmWave version

Google Pixel 4A 5G (128GB, Black) Australian Stock - Refurbished (Excellent) review

Last year's Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL incorporated flagship specifications, but had terrible battery life and were priced too high. This year we see a different strategy with lower prices, midrange specifications, and fewer available options with the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G .

Latest Android software, Excellent camera software, Affordable price, 5G cellular support, 3.5mm headphone jack, Rear fingerprint sensor

Limited storage options

Google Pixel 4A 5G (128GB, Black) Australian Stock - Refurbished (Excellent) review

If Google did not release the Pixel 5, I would have given you a clear recommendation to buy the Pixel 4a 5G. But this is not a fault of the Pixel 4a 5G, which is not only convincing as a smartphone, but as an overall concept.

Camera quality, Look and feel, Vibration motor and speaker, Performance, Android 11

No IP certification, 60 Hz refresh rate, A Pixel 5 clone

Google Pixel 4A 5G (128GB, Black) Australian Stock - Refurbished (Excellent) review

The Google Pixel 4A 5G is pretty good at everything, but it lacks a standout feature to set itself apart from the crowd.

Google Pixel 4A 5G (128GB, Black) Australian Stock - Refurbished (Excellent) review

Google has heard us and made the Pixel 4a 5G a battery life champ! And no, we're not joking.

Big, bright screen, Impressive battery life, 128GB of storage out of the box, The famous Pixel camera, Ultra-wide camera finally, Big battery that can finally last all day, No more gimmicks like Motion Sense & Active Edge, There's a headphone jack

No IP rating, Available in two different 5G models (Sub-6 or mmWave), Only one storage variant - 128GB, Available in one color - Black, Face Unlock is gone

Google Pixel 4A 5G (128GB, Black) Australian Stock - Refurbished (Excellent) review

Three months ago I reviewed the Pixel 4a, and gave it a perfect score . I think it’s ideal for a budget Android phone today. The Pixel 4a 5G is that, just bigger and with 5G. Does that make it perfect, too? Not quite.

Perfect screen size, Fantastic Android software, Great battery life, Unbeatable cameras

5G is questionably useful, No water resistance, No wireless charging

Google Pixel 4A 5G (128GB, Black) Australian Stock - Refurbished (Excellent) review

Earlier this year, Google released the Pixel 4a, a relatively cheap device at $349 with no real interesting characteristics besides from it being a cheap Google phone with a good camera. For some, maybe that’s good enough. Now, we have a beefed up version of that device called the Pixel 4a 5G...

Great value; rich OLED screen; simple design; snappy rear fingerprint sensor; has a headphone jack; double the storage from last year

Only one color; no water resistance or wireless charging

Google Pixel 4A 5G (128GB, Black) Australian Stock - Refurbished (Excellent) review

This is a combined review of the new Google Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 5G because underneath they both have the same tech. So the question is do you spend $799 or $999 for a 5G enabled Pixel – or just get the back-to-basics Pixel 4a 4G at $599. There are two schools of thought here.

Build quality – 5 is tops with an aluminium frame and back, Battery life – average 1+ days, Camera – good but not class-leading, Android – Pure with 3 years updates

Display – OLED is great, but these both lack brightness and colour gamut, Camera lacks telephoto – ultra-wide is not very useful
