Google is not used to being second. And yet, that's uncomfortable the position it finds itself in the smart speaker market. The reasons for that are twofold: first, Amazon was fastest out the blocks. Although the Echo may be new to Australia, it has been a feature of American homes since 2014.

We have had this for about a month now and really are glad to have it. So far it has played dinner music for specified period of time, bedtime music and meditation music for specific amounts of time.

Nothing easier.....set timer, play music, answer questions, check schedule, make calls....This sounds silly but I think the best feature is setting timers while cooking. Had 4 different timers going...while playing music..lol

There's nothing especially remarkable about Google Home Mini, except perhaps one thing: it does everything the bigger Home product does, but is much, much smaller. Home Mini isn't designed as a speaker for music, though.

My only real problem with Google Home is it doesnt seem to hear very well. Other than that I LOVE it.. I ask for the time, I set alarms, I ask questions, mostly I use it to control my home lights and some appliances. I learned that "Vampire" usage of electricity can add up in cost.

I've never thought of having Alexa or G home as I thought "why do I need it". But, when I talked to my friend and she said it's quite useful, then I thought I'll have a go. Now, we are using them for calling kids upstairs for dinner, reminding them homework, checking if they set alarm for tomorrow...

I bought this a few weeks ago as part of what I hoped would be an integrated sound, PC and media system. Not yet found the connections working and the Google speaker only connects to the internet intermittently. Currently disappointed but I am sure things can be sorted.
