Immortals Fenyx Rising review

Not only is it charming, but Immortals Fenyx Rising's world is a joy to explore and a complete blast to play. Stuffed with combat, collectibles, mysteries, puzzles, and a healthy dollop of family-friendly good-humour, there's a hell of a lot of bang for your buck. In fact, we've wasted enough time sat here writing about it – it's time to head back to Golden Isle and, hopefully, never leave it again.

A stunning open-world to explore; A smorgasbord of tests, puzzles, and challenging combat; An engaging cast of memorable, larger-than-life characters (literally, in some cases);

The busy map and compass can feel a little overwhelming; Occasional hard crashes imply Ubisoft has yet to iron out all the bugs; Expect too many late nights as you promise yourself you'll only do "one more" vault;

Immortals: Fenyx Rising Review

If you’re after an open world experience that’s a little different from Ubisoft’s usual output, Immortals Fenyx Rising is a colourful adventure worth considering.

A vast, colourful and gorgeous world to explore; Boasts a refreshing take on Greek Mythology; Combat and exploration are rewardingly engaging ; Puzzle design is downright excellent ;

Narrative is lightweight and underwhelming; Lacks challenge, even on harder difficulty settings;

Immortals Fenyx Rising review: Arise, winged warrior

Offering a similarly enjoyable experience to a Zelda game, which is some achievement, and the way in which Fenyx Rising mines Greek mythology provides a decent amount of distinctiveness.

Looks great; Showcases the Greek myths; Decent combat and powers; Plentiful and mostly great puzzling;

At times too reminiscent of Breath of the Wild; Lacks the wonderment that Zelda induces; Dialogue may be a bit too Gen Z for some;

Immortals Fenyx Rising review: 2020’s sleeper hit

Immortals Fenyx Rising may not perfectly match the organic exploration of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but it more than makes up for its shortcomings with gorgeous design, a witty script, and excellent combat. This will be publisher Ubisoft’s third massive open-world game in two months, and is the only one not a part of an established franchise, but doesn’t mean it’s any less worthy of your time. Earlier this year, a gacha game (those that employ a capsule-toy vending machine mechanic) from developer miHoYo came onto the scene. Called Genshin Impact, it was immediately compared to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which it very closely emulates. Immortals Fenyx Rising is even more of a clone of that popular game than Genshin Impact. You play as Fenyx, a customizable Ancient Greek soldier, who wakes up after having shipwrecked on a small island. You are prevented from accessing the rest of the map until you complete a few objectives that ultimately net you a tool to g...

Gorgeous design; Excellent combat and puzzles; Great script; Fun characters;

Identical to Breath of the Wild in structure; Tiresome marking system;
