The move over to the PS3 also gave these two titles something they were missing on the PSP and that are the right analog stick for dodging and the L2 and R2 buttons for magic and special abilities. Epic and grandiose are two words that can be used to describe the God of War franchise.

There's been a total of five God of War games now, spread across the PS2, PSP and the PS3. Bluepoint Games brought the first two PS2 games to the PS3, updating the visuals into HD and doing a real grand job.

All in all, God of War: Origins Collection is a truly awesome collection. The two PSP games were already excellent in their own right, but with all the improvements that have been made, they have earned the right to reside next to their console counterparts.

The graphics aren't as pretty when blown up; The animations are a bit sparse a times.

It's pretty difficult to significantly fault Volume II. The battles are smaller, and the games don't look as good as the titles that were built for PS3, but they never were going to.

God of War is one of those rare video game franchises where every game in the series has been a spectacular achievement in terms of gameplay, graphics, and storytelling. For the most part the series has been exclusive to the PS2/PS3, with the three main games in the series releasing on the consoles.

It seems as though the breakout success of Sony's God of War Collection back in 2009 started a trend because since then publishers have been scrambling to produce HD re-releases of popular franchises.
