And while the Hero10 Black ($399 with a one-year GoPro subscription) is a decidedly more evolutionary update than the revolutionary Hero9 was, it's a better camera for it. The form factor remains the same, so the Hero10 works with Hero9 accessories. More importantly, the video engine has been updated for 5.3K60 and 4K120 capture, aided by superlative stabilization. Its slim design and wide lens make it a favorite for POV action shots, and it works well for live streaming and as a webcam. The GoPro Hero10 Black is an exciting, if not overwhelming, update to the world’s most popular action camera. While internal electronics are never the most exciting of upgrades, the performance they bring often is. The GP2 delivers overall improved performance, and that has to be a good thing.

The GoPro Hero 10 Black is a fantastic action camera. While on the surface it’s a rehash of the Hero 9 Black (and its shooting resolutions are virtually identical), it’s a very different camera in day to day use. Thanks to the GP2 processor, together with updates to photo and video processing, the Hero 10 Black captures a better image across all lighting conditions. It’s much more responsive than any previous HoPro. The boosted frame rates are stellar for fans of slow motion, while the camera’s nice-to-have features (from better live-streaming and webcam support to faster wireless and wired transfer of video) iron out niggles that plagued older editions. If you’re planning to pick up a Hero 10 Black, make sure you sign up for a GoPro subscription to save a packet. Besides unlimited cloud backup and camera replacements, the £50 annual membership bags you a discount that brings the price of the Hero 10 Black down from £529 to £379. While we wouldn’t normally highlight optional offers in a review, this one is unlikely to go anywhere: GoPro’s been doing it for years, and the lower camera price ultimately makes it even easier to score this Hero full marks.
