Maybe I did something wrong, but I was extremely disappointed with the performance of this device while I was hiking on the AT in Maine last week. Whenever I wanted a weather report or to send a message, it responded with "Weak GPS signal, move to an area with an open view of the sky.
Very very hard to get program haven't done it yet
I bought this to let my partner know when I make it safely to trailheads, campsites, etc. It's also nice that I can let her know that I'm alive when I'm taking a little longer on the trail than usual.
I originally had the SPOTX but ended up returning it and going with the mini. I found that the satellite coverage for the SPOTX was poor and that about 90% of my messages were undeliverable. With the InReach Mini it worked great. For fun I brought both devices out to a remote fishing spot.
