Garmin eTrex 10 review

The Garmin eTrex 10 is Garmin's new entry-level unit in the recently updated eTrex series. It offers paperless geocaching, GPS+GLONASS and advanced track navigation, but has a monochrome screen, limited memory and cannot accept detailed maps (although you can see your track and waypoints, as...

Recent developments in Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers have focused on developing colour touch screens that put digital Ordnance Survey (OS) mapping at your fingertips. But while the latest high-tech GPS receivers offer almost everything a hillwalker wants, they carry high price tags and...

My style of use for a gps is with map and compass. I would take a reading leaving the truck mark it on the map. When returning check location on map, set compass course.. When turning on garmin e-trex 10 the window was satellite and utm reading which was good, but then it only came up with degrees...

For the money, this one is great in my opinion. Easy to use!

I bought this product because we geocache alot, and decided to try paperless caching. This device works great for that. its simple, easy to use and lightweight/small. Fits right into my Motorcycle mounted GPS holder and works great!

Great technology

Light, good ref battery life. Lots of excellent features. I would have given it a much higher rating but instructions to use are almost useless. Maybe the younger generation who have greater intuitive skills with technology or an owner of a previous model would not find this an issue.

High Quality; Lightweight

Expensive; lack of instructions

I use this for my geological mapping for my dissertation. Provides accurate grid references within a couple of metres, I actually found it to plot my position better than the eTrex 20 and it is half the price, only real difference I honestly found between the two is that the etrex 10 is black and...

If you're a beginner, you'll find the quick startup…

If you're a beginner, you'll find the quick startup and owner's manuals woefully inadequate. I had to call Garmin twice just to find out how to get the page that shows me how far I've hiked. I've used a Garmin GPS 60 for years, so I'm not a beginner.

It's relatively simple and not expensive

Thumb stick is too sensitive; it sometimes takes me 8 "presses" to "enter" instead of moving up, down, or sideways
