Not perfect, but not many better.

I bought the X-E1 because I can't stand using the rear LCD of digital cameras, I need to look through the finder to feel connected. I also wanted something small as I found I didn't use my SLR very often any more because of size.

A bit slow to focus; a bit slow with buit in flash; sometimes picks too slow a shutter speed in aperture priority with auto ISO

Fujifilm X-E1 review by spochana

A long waiting Pro-quality mirrorless camera for me. It is light and solid built. I can carry to everywhere I go without a big camera bag but it can deliver high quality photos similar to a DSLR (APC sensor not full frame).

Light; solid built; DSLR image quality

a little slower focusing speed than DSLR

This camera is excellent. I find the ergonomics kind of clunky as I find it not that comfortable to hold for a long time. However, the camera itself was affordable and of excellent quality. It is made in Japan. The dynamic range is very impressive for a crop sensor camera.

I like the controls for primary functions but the interface is a bit fiddly for more obscure settings, likely solved by familiarity. It's fun with adapters to use old lenses on this body.

Beautiful tonal renditions (film-like); compact; fast handling; quality construction; very adaptable for using legacy optics; stealthy quiet; high ISO duty maintains nice quality

Can struggle a bit in very low light focusing

Fujifilm X-E1 review

The 16.3 effective megapixel, 1920x1080 pixels Full HD video shooting Fujifilm X-E1 competes directly with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 in the retro styled compact camera system stakes.

Retro styling; Less daunting than the X-Pro1; Lovely image results

A pricey step up; Screen isn't angle adjustable; AF could be quicker

Great back-up to a full size DSLR

Fuji have really carved a niche for themselves with the X Series - and the X-E1 is a brilliant addition. I wanted a smaller camera for travel and family events use as I found lugging my Canon 7D and lenses around a bit of a chore. The image quality and dynamic range in the JPEGS, never mind the RAW...

Durable; Great Features; Great Picture Quality; Lightweight

As an avid traveller and amateur portraitist, I wanted a small camera with an APSC sensor and outstanding image quality. This new Fuji delivers in spades. STRENGTHS : 1) resolution equal to full frame DSLR.

Great camera, especially for travelling

This camera is really good, amazing quality shots, and even at ISO3200 and above there is little noise. Photos have a special "something" to them. You should also look at the 35mm F1.4 Fulifilm lens, which is also great and worthwhile, and for a "fun" lens the Samyang/Rokinon/Bowen 8mm F2.8 fisheye...

Fujifilm X-E1

The Fujifilm X-E1 is the second mirrorless model from the company to use the X-mount. It was launched in September 2012 and has the same rangefinder aesthetic and analogue controls as its forerunner the X-Pro 1.

Excellent image quality; Superb high ISO noise performance; Big; bright; high resolution EVF; Built-in flash; External mic/remote socket; 6fps continuous shooting

EVF prone to extraneous light; No direct movie record button; Limited movie modes; AF perfomance still so-so; No gadgets like built-in Wifi or GPS
