Fujifilm X-E1

Over the past couple of years Fujifilm's premium quality ‘X' range has elevated the brand no end in the eyes of enthusiast photographers. The first model in the series – the X100 – combined retro rangefinder looks with a cutting edge ‘hybrid' viewfinder to great effect, and this was soon followed by...

Stunning image quality; Premium finish and design; Excellent electronic viewfinder; No-nonsense handling

AF performance could still be better; Rear screen not up to standard of rivals

X-E1

IT IS no secret that I'm in love with the Fuji X-Pro1 - in spite of its retro looks, it packs in a lot of advanced technology into its Leica-like body, not least of which is a class-leading 16-megapixel X-Trans CMOS sensor.

Excellent image quality; built-in pop-up flash; easy-to-use controls; Autofocus speed could still see some improvement

Fujifilm X-E1

The Fujifilm X-E1 is a compact system camera (CSC) unlike any of the competition out there - that's clear from taking just one glance at this well-oiled, retro-designed machine. But it's what's on the inside that's most exciting.

Image quality is excellent; build quality is superb; retro style works a treat; high resolution electronic viewfinder; 18-55mm lens has bright aperture range and is well built

Autofocus not as swift as competition; close focus limitations; exposure comp dial can be knocked easily; 18-55mm lens positions rotational rings close together; small LCD screen; so-so battery life

I wanted to move from dSLR to something smaller, but wasn't ready to sacrifice the functionality and image quality.I'm so impressed with dynamic range, sharpness and image quality... I can't get the smile off of my face, for weeks :) This is one beautiful and joyful camera.

Fujifilm X-E1: Review

I immediately appreciated the Fujifilm X-E1 , since in practice the "cousin" with interchangeable lenses. But it is undeniable that this new system is a really good party: good and excellent optical sensors.

Vintage aesthetic; Ergonomics; Flash easily integrated directional upward; Image quality

Lack of the last manual focus mode and focus peaking split-image; Shutter speed Auto ISO is not configurable; Noise tendon focal plane shutter; Battery indicator residual misleading

Fuji X-E1 Review

Those, who read our website on a frequent basis know that I ended up picking the Olympus OM-D E-M5 as my mirrorless camera of choice last year. Although I loved shooting with the Fuji X-Pro1, the two primary reasons why I decided to hold back, were its poor autofocus performance and lack of RAW...

Fuji X-E1

The Fuji X-E1 follows the X-Pro1 with the same 16 MP CMOS sensor that delivers class-leading image quality thanks to its unique X-Trans sensor which does not use an anti-alias filter. The X-E1 is an excellent successor to the X-Pro1.

Class-leading image quality; Extremely low image noise up to ISO 6400; Excellent sharpness; Great color accuracy; Above average metering system; Good white-balance; Superb EVF; Plenty of direct controls; Instant video response; Excellent build quality

Very slow autofocus in low-light; Sluggish autofocus in good light; Slow shot-to-shot speed; Not Exposure-Priority; Fractional shutter-speeds get reset; Only one Fn button Only one of ISO; Self-Timer; DOF-Preview or WB is accessible at a time; No AE-L in MF mode; Soft aperture detents With all...

This camera is excellent. I find the ergonomics kind of clunky as I find it not that comfortable to hold for a long time. However, the camera itself was affordable and of excellent quality. It is made in Japan. The dynamic range is very impressive for a crop sensor camera.

I like the controls for primary functions but the interface is a bit fiddly for more obscure settings, likely solved by familiarity. It's fun with adapters to use old lenses on this body.

Beautiful tonal renditions (film-like); compact; fast handling; quality construction; very adaptable for using legacy optics; stealthy quiet; high ISO duty maintains nice quality

Can struggle a bit in very low light focusing
