FIFA 17

's new mode ‘The Journey' for the past five hours. Well, at least I think it's 2 a.m. -- I'm far too hooked by the mode's addictive qualities to look at my phone. Alex Hunter's tale is an intriguing one, and my personal mission to achieve glory as a member of the AFC Bournemouth squad has engulfed...

FIFA 17 review: EA just misses out on being champions

There's no doubt that this is a massive year for FIFA. PES 2016 really pulled it out of the bag, and PES 2017 is even better, so there's the sense that EA Sports decided resting on its laurels wasn't an option. The result?

The world of sports video games is a fickle one for developers. It couldn't be any truer when it comes to the ongoing battle for supremacy between the two prominent IPs in world football, FIFA and PES . This year, EA Sports decided that it was time for big changes.

FIFA 17

The last two years haven't been brilliant for FIFA fans. In 2014 EA implemented numerous changes to the game, and the result was not entirely positive. Last year, with FIFA 16 , the gameplay was improved, but absurd difficulty levels ruined the solo content.

FIFA 17 review

What value is there, though, in having all these different ways of playing, if the playing itself just isn't that enjoyable? That's the question I've had to ask myself as I've sunk hours into The Journey, FUT, career mode, and will doubtless continue to ponder over the coming weeks.

FIFA 17 review

Resident footy fanatic Toby check out this years FIFA offering from EA Canada.

Frostbite engine is a fantastic addition; Breathtaking depiction of football; The Journey is a blast; Career Mode is great; Ultimate Team is as addictive as ever; Wonderful soundtrack

Penalties are broken; Free kicks feel and look awkward; Defensive AI can be a pain in the butt on higher difficulty settings; Goalkeepers have superman-like reflexes at close range

FIFA 17 Review: A New Journey Begins

There are a few things that are certain in life, death, taxes, and that every year we will get a new FIFA title to play. However, there is something different about this year's FIFA, that really pushes the limit of what is possible in a football game.

FIFA 17 Review – Xbox One

isn't one of the entries in the series that changes enough to feel like a must-buy, and if you're happy still playing , then you may well feel justified in holding off on purchasing a new football game until next year.

Positives + The Journey is engrossing + Frostbite engine works well + New; minor additions compliment already existing modes

Negatives; Some presentation feels stale; The Journey is a little too scripted

FIFA 17 Review

At the end of my PES 2017 review, I said that you only needed a single football game each year. I stand by this, but FIFA 17 isn't just a football game. It doesn't feel as satisfying to play as PES 2017, but FIFA's got a few extra cards up its sleeve with FIFA's Ultimate Team and its stellar The...

My son LOVES this game

My son LOVES the game & loves the realistic graphics & commentary. He also loves challenging his Dad and is usually victorious. Great excitement & noise levels whenever a challenging match is in play. Great game.
