Dynasty Warriors 8 review – same as it ever?was?

It's still going to be a long hard struggle to turn Dynasty Warriors into a top quality action game, but this is the first sequel in a long time to feel like it's actually trying.

The combat changes are the most significant for many years and the new Ambition mode is by far the best way to play the game; Mountains of content

Even though it's better than usual the combat is still shallow by any other standard, and the story campaign even more long-winded than usual; Half broken graphics and terrible voiceovers

"One Step Forward, One Step Back"

Dynasty Warriors 8 is not unique. It can't be as an eighth installment, or should I say remake ? After all, the essence of the DW franchise has been to bring history to life, albeit through the use of exaggerated weaponry and eccentric characters.

Weapons; Skills; Horses; Transitions; Storytelling

Characters; Short Storylines; Shu Favouritism; Voice Acting; Lu Bu; Ambition Mode

Dynasty Warriors 8

"Besides a bit of extra polish, this is pretty much more of the same, for familiar better or stagnating worse." "Your officer of choice is essentially a Chinese Super Saiyan, plowing through hundreds of enemy soldiers in each skirmish.

An absurd amount of content; Decimating enemies with flashy special moves; The campy nature of the characters

How quickly repetition starts to dominates the gameplay; Not knowing who you are or what you're fighting for; Unbearable slowdown in the 360 version

A quick warning...

This is an add-on, or expansion, and not a complete game. I unfortunately made that mistake as I do not have the original DW8. While the game is completely playable in its own right, the lack of the majority of the storyline missions means you only have access to 'extra' missions in Story mode,...

Dynasty Warriors 8 Review

This is the best entry in the Dynasty Warriors series purely by the law of evolution. Nothing has truly changed a great deal but new additions to combat gel well with the outrageous, barbaric choreography.

Dynasty Warriors 8

With each new installment of a successful video-game series, the developers likely ask themselves if they should continue to do the same things that have earned them a dedicated fanbase, only slightly better, or opt to risk losing the support of loyalists who find comfort in repetition by revising...

Dynasty Warriors 8 (PS3) - Review

For a decade and a half now Dynasty Warriors has ploughed its own way through the gaming industry. Originally a side-on beat'em up, the series has developed a cult following keen on its mixture of historical grounding (I use the term loosely) and huge, rampant battles.
