A solid game that definitely has an audience. Might lack replay value, could be too short or there are some hard-to-ignore faults, but the experience is fun. How we score: The Destructoid Reviews Guide

Carolyn Petit charges up her special attack for this review of Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi.
Generally speaking, the Dragon Ball games look way better than they play. Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi is the latest example of this trend, as it delivers a visually faithful experience that completely fails to deliver anything in the way of meaningful gameplay.
DBZ holds a special place in the nostalgia center of my heart, so of course I'm excited when I hear of any form of new DBZ media. This goes double for games due to my love of gaming and the ability to enjoy the game with friends.
One cannot help but be amazed at the tenacity of the Dragon Ball Z license. Despite the absence of new tales for more than a decade, the game series continues to chug along, content to retell the same battles over and over again.
The game is average, it has a smaller roster then most of the recent Dragon Ball fighting games, and the gameplay is very limited however it is the first outing with this new battle system so I look forward to seeing what they can do by improving upon it.
Over the years, Dragon Ball Z games have managed to entertain throngs of anime fans, even though the series went through its most popular anime run years ago. Namco Bandai must have a heavy reliance on this, because it's back with yet another game in the series, Ultimate Tenkaichi.
At least it's pretty to look at. I went in with low expectations and this game somehow tripped and fell over the bar before crashing and burning in an explosion of terrible. I don't know who thought this was fun but the DBZ cast deserves a lot better.
I have a somewhat sordid history with the Dragon Ball Z series. I loved the TV show up until it hit the Namek and Freiza saga and dragged on for a whole season in one fight. Then I got back into it when it started focusing on Gohan and really got annoyed that it shifted back to Goku just as fast.
Quick Take: The best DBZ game yet, but still far from flawless.
