You can only tell the same story so many times, and Dragon Ball games are well past their allotment. I've seen Raditz perforated by the Special Beam Cannon more than 100 times by now, and while I love the series' grandiose narrative and iconic moments, it has long needed a spark.
Detailed character customization; New; interesting take on a tired story
Basic; loose controls make for uneven gameplay; Immense enemy health bars result in shallow; frustrating end game
From being able to create your own character, the battle system is very easy and fun that anyone can immense on it. Unlike other fighting games where you have to input commands to use their special moves, on this game every thing can be done with ease.
Early last year I sat down with Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z as a big DBZ fan who was just beginning to write for this site. What I got was a rehashed, lacklustre product that felt more like a hazing to joining the team (it was) than a pleasant experience in gaming.
Dragon Ball: Xenoverse marks the first manifestation of a Dragon Ball brawler on this generation's most advanced consoles (PlayStation 4, Xbox One), and the noticeable uptick in graphical fluidity combined with a unique solo campaign seems to be just what this series needed in order to escape from...
Entertaining Dragon Ball game but I must stress that this is only for fans. The game looks nice and has lots of carácter customisation. Is not without its flaws though --> -Battles can be very tedious and repetitive due to lack of variety.
Very good game, The fact that you can create your own character which has been the REAL BIG step up for me on this game has just made it amazing. Ive been waiting since the old Budokai games to be able to create my own character. The story line is awesome and will not disappoint.
The latest title based on the popular series is Dragon Ball Xenoverse, coming from developer Dimps and publisher Bandai Namco on a wide array of platforms all over the world. Instead of featuring just fighting mechanics or standard storylines from the manga or anime, Xenoverse takes things further...
Nice character creator system; Good role-playing mechanics; Both co-op and competitive multiplayer
Fighting system can feel confusing and clunky; Erratic camera and lock-on mechanic; Visuals don't always look that great; Dumb AI teammates
Dragon Ball Z Xenoverse is no next-gen title but is still fun to play on the PlayStation 4, especially if you're a fan of DBZ!
I discovered Dragon Ball Z after it became a TV show, but ironically, it was only available on a Mexican channel. Years later I discovered that whether the show is in English or Spanish, the long-winded soliloquies spewed by its characters took up too much airtime while awesome fight scenes...
Combat scenario variety; Huge roster; Customizable characters; Oozes with fan service
