Dark Souls: Remastered Review – PlayStation 4

Chances are if you're reading this you have at least some level of understanding/familiarity with the Souls games. While not the first entry in the long-running series (that honor belongs to Demon's Souls), Dark Souls is perhaps the best (and fan favorite) representation of the series' formula:...

Positives + 60 FPS makes all the difference; + Still an amazing experience in the world of video games

Negatives - There are no twists, no layout variation, nothing is changed or altered from the original release; If you've played the game previously, then you've played this version; - Strictly for completionists and newcomers

Dark Souls Remastered

Seven years after its initial release, Dark Souls remains a compelling and dread-inducing journey into the depths of strikingly detailed environments inundated with lethal creatures, tempting treasure, and characters whose laughter points to all-consuming madness.

"Game is 10/10. Steel plate was dented."

When I preordered this I was super excited for it, even more so when it arrived. I was disappointed when I opened the package and the plate had a small, unrepairable dent in the top 1/4 of the plate that I can pretty much guarantee won't be damaged enough for a replacement.

Dark Souls Remastered review – difficult to resist

From Software's classic action adventure is updated for the current gen, with a smoother frame rate a very familiar challenge.

The smoother frame rate significantly improves the already excellent melee combat; Huge game world filled with treasures; Superb art design and boss encounters, including in the DLC

Still moments of occasional slowdown and inconsistent texture work; The original design can occasionally cross the line into perverse difficultly, particularly with regards to curses

A remaster of a deadly classic...

It's Dark Souls except no more laggy Blighttown! Or Lost Izalith either... yep, they fixed those frame rate issues. Unfortunately, the duplication glitch has been fixed so no more infinite humanity or souls. But other than that, still a classic.

I still remember the shy, hopeful Reddit threads about a Dark Souls remaster. Nearly everyone wanted it, most upvoted "for visibility", some even came up with ideas to improve on the original game beyond the usual and, frankly, expected graphics upgrade that comes with a remaster.

Spirit of Dark Souls lives on; Locked 60 FPS (even in Blighttown; Matchmaking improvements; Minor but very useful updates like using multiple consumable items at once and changing covenants at bonfires

Not a true remaster; Next to no graphics improvements in terms of quality; No new content; Multiplayer bugs not fixed

It's Dark Souls. What more do you want filthy casul

It's dark souls. If you enjoyed ds1 and only ever played it on ps3/xbox then this is definitely worth the buy. If you've played on PC with dsfix it's not worth it unless you really value the 6 player multiplayer that was added to this.

PS4 Review - 'Dark Souls Remastered'

Buy Dark Souls Remastered Few games can claim to be innovators, but Dark Souls is one of them. There's an argument to be made that the first title in the series is actually Demon Souls , but it's more like a rough draft for the Dark Souls series.
