I'm ashamed to admit that I never really got into the Dark Souls series . It wasn't the challenge that turned me off; I enjoy "hard" games. Instead, I didn't get the appeal of a game where dying over and over was considered a gameplay mechanic.
Higher resolution than original (up to 4K depending on platform); Steady 60fps; Improved textures and lighting; Jumping can be awkward
Jumping can be awkward
Loving dark souls at the moment, it doesn't look as good as most remastered games, but it's the gameplay that counts, and I think it's awesome, give it a go if you haven't played in on the playstation 3 like myself.
Definitive souls
Runs at a buttery smooth 60fps; Gorgeous new lighting effects; Online play is mostly solid
No new content; Some draw distance issues
One of the best games of the last generation gets to join the greats of this one as well thanks to a solid remastering and underlying mechanics that...
Masterfully designed world; Immensely satisfying combat; Loaded with replay value
Camera can still be dodgy; Redone visuals vary wildly in quality; Gruelling difficulty isn't for everyone
If there was more attention given towards improving what was already a great game, Dark Souls Remastered could have been perfect. Instead, it falls somewhere in this half-hearted limbo. Finally, it has a very stable and high frame-rate, but the collision and hit-detection is still unfairly off.
When the launch day finally came during September 2011, I was up at my local ASDA picking it up minutes after it was put on the shelf! Little did I know, taking this game home that I was about to endure a four-month love/hate relationship with FROM Software's new game!!!
If I could give this 100000 stars I would. Always have loved this game and the remaster is nothing short of amazing. Praise the sun!
Dark Souls Remastered is still essentially Dark Souls, just slightly better looking and with better online functionality, which is both a good and bad thing.
Dark Souls is a franchise with a lot of influence over the way games have developed this past decade. The Souls games have inspired a whole swath of imitators, both good and bad, thanks to their revolutionary design. I've also never really played them before now.
Stable frame-rate; Laser-precise level design; Clean; shiny graphics
Still terribly hard; Hardcore fans will find some drawbacks; Causes constant howling of despair
